Apparel Designer

Our rapidly growing business is in need of a Technical Designer who can support our design team at our Austin, TX office.What You’ll DoThis role will support the Design Director & help to oversee 1 assistant technical designer. You will also work closely with the Product Development team. Tasks may include but are not limited to:Client RelationshipsAct as a primary point of contact for AJG clients, providing expert technical guidance and timely communication to build long-term, dependable partnerships.Proactively identify savings through thoughtful design adjustments, trim counter-sourcing, shipment consolidation, and the reduction of sample iterations.Drive efficiency across the entire production lifecycle by anticipating bottlenecks and implementing forward-thinking solutions to streamline the process.Deliver premium support throughout the design-to-delivery pipeline, ensuring all client needs are met with high-level technical expertise and professional integrity.Apparel & Technical DesignCreating design concepts, sketches, mood boards, digital fashion illustrations, and technical drawings for client's designsCreate development and production tech packs, including measurements, technical sketches, garment construction details, etcCommunicate any potential issues on developments to client in a timely manner & offer solutionsLead fit sessions on a live model or mannequin.Ensure fit is standardized across brands as per client requirementsPrepare sample for fit session, measuring and recording information via google docs or Backbone PLM system & taking detailed photographs of garmentsEnsure accurate notes and digital pictures are taken during fit sessions, and integrate notes into clear fit comments.Catalog, track, store, & maintain samples with proper labeling and storage.Review/approve lab dips and print strike offs against color standards. Clearly communicate comments to clients and vendors.Communicate daily with both clients and overseas factories, via in-person and virtual meetings, as well as email, slack and whatsapp as needed, in a professional manner that reflects the client-centric values of AJG.Must be able to work in-person at our Austin, TX, but be comfortable working with employees & Managers who are off-site or work remotely.Must be available during regular business hours. Organize and prioritize workload to meet all deadlinesStay up to date with industry standards on compliance & testing regulationsOversee assistant designer as necessaryEducation/ExpertiseCollege Degree in Apparel, Fashion, or Technical DesignAt least 3 Years of relevant experienceProficiency with Excel, Google Sheets, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop a plusPLM experience a plus (Centric, Backbone)Knowledge of garment construction, understanding of basic sewing operations, understanding of basic pattern-making & gradingNecessary SkillsProven ability to manage competing priorities, agendas and translate complex information across internal and external audiences.Highly organizedSolutions focused approachTop-notch follow up skills are essentialStrong time management skillsSuperior customer service abilitiesExcellent verbal and written communication skillsGood interpersonal skills, team oriented, ability to work cohesively with a small teamMulti-tasker with a “can-do” attitude and ability to shift priorities when neededExperience creating technical flats & CADs in Adobe IllustratorGraphic Design and Textile Design capabilities a plusPlease send a portfolio of your work along with your resume.
