Supervisor, Cultural Literacy and Lending LibraryThis role oversees the daily operations of a unique literacy center and lending library that serves as a bridge between traditional Navajo (Dine) knowledge and modern literacy development. This position is responsible for managing a specialized collection of books and cultural artifacts, fostering community partnerships, and designing intergenerational programming that strengthens reading and writing skills through the lens of cultural identity.Essential duties include managing, coordinating, and overseeing the Cultural Literacy and Lending Library, as well as sub-locations at district schools. The CLLL Supervisor will ensure that program activities align with the organization's mission, funding requirements, and best practices in literacy for students, families, and community. This includes reviewing and approving culturally relevant materials, supplies, curricula, artifacts, programming, activity plans, and service delivery models.The CLLL Supervisor will conduct regular meetings with the Social & Safety Net Coordinator to review progress with budget management, funding compliance, and expenditure processing. The supervisor will also manage daily operations of the literacy center, including supervision of center, hours, access, and programming. An inclusive repository of culturally relevant materials will be created, incorporating Native American (NA) and Dine (Navajo) oral traditions, history, and teachings.The CLLL Supervisor will oversee the acquisition and preservation of books and cultural artifacts, ensuring they are stored, handled, and loaned out according to library standards and cultural protocols. Regular performance evaluations will be conducted, and deliverables of co-locators, cultural knowledge holders, cultural practitioners, elders, presenters, for cultural literacy and family engagement events will be monitored.The role requires a Bachelor's Degree in Literacy, Reading, Education, Literacy Instruction, or a closely related field. A Master's Degree is preferred. Three years of experience in literacy programming, instruction, and intervention frameworks are required, along with three years of experience in direct program and budget management, supervision of facilities and staff. Strong experience working with the community, building partnerships, and coordinating family-oriented engagement and learning events is necessary.Strong understanding of effective literacy practices and strategies with research experience is required. Technical familiarity with digital literacy tools, archiving, and resources is preferred. Demonstrated knowledge and ability to develop educational programming for diverse age groups (K-12 through Elders) are essential. Deep understanding of Navajo (Dine) culture, history, and traditions is required. Strong interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills are necessary to build rapport and establish trusting relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds.Excellent organizational and time management skills are required. Cultural sensitivity and awareness, with the ability to work effectively with the Navajo community, are essential. Proficiency in computer applications is required. A valid New Mexico driver's license and reliable transportation are necessary. The position requires standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying up to 30 pounds, climbing, bending, reaching, kneeling, driving a District vehicle, traveling long distances, writing, typing, word processing, reading, researching information, and effective communication skills.
