Pratt Institute is seeking a General Mechanic to join its Facilities Management Team who will maintain Pratt’s buildings and facilities in a clean, safe and appropriate manner. The successful candidate will perform repairs and maintenance of facilities and equipment. If you have hands-on experience in any two of these trades: electrical, carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, or painting, and experience in maintenance, repair, and installation, then this could be a great opportunity for you!,Perform assigned general maintenance duties required to maintain and repair campus buildings, structures, machinery, and equipment, involving some skill in carpentry, plumbing, painting, and/or the electrical or mechanical tradesPerform preventive and predictive maintenance to buildings and facilitiesConduct routine inspections of facilities, including interior and exterior building structure, windows, doors, lighting, ceiling, fire equipment, boilers, electrical, HVAC, equipment controls, and all systems and componentsSchedule, troubleshoot, and perform maintenance and repairs to buildings and facilities including carpentry, painting, hardware and locks, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, generators, equipment controls, and the moving of furniture and equipment.Snow and ice removalRespond to work orders for troubleshooting, repair and feedback to SupervisorCoordinate licensed inspections as requiredAssist Senior Managers and Lead Mechanics with maintaining tools and inventory, maintaining logs and materials required for work orders and their completion status, inspect building machinery and equipment to ensure proper functioning, and responding to all emergency repairs including after work hours, weekends, and holidaysGeneral Mechanic will be responsible to make emergency repairs within area of knowledge and responsibility.Perform all other related duties as assigned. Education: High School Diploma or equivalency required; Associate degree preferred.Experience: Must have at least three years’ experience in maintenance and repair of facilities and experience or combination in any two trades (i.e. electrical, carpentry, HVAC, plumbing or painting). Experience in higher educational institutions and colleges preferred.Knowledge, Skills and License: The incumbent must have proficient knowledge in one of the following areas:Building carpentry, and maintenance procedures as; HVAC, electrical and mechanical systems.NYS Driver License required.Ability to communicate with public in a positive, courteous and respectful manner.Must have the ability to work well with diverse populations; and demonstrated level of cultural competence.To help us better understand your strengths, a brief skills assessment will be included in the selection process., Must comply with all safety requirements for work, clothing and personal protective equipment.Physical & Environmental RequirementsWork on their feet: Approx.70–85% of the workday.Work outdoors in inclement weather: Approx. 30–50% of duties, depending on seasonal and operational needs.Operate dangerous equipment or handle hazardous materials: Approx. 30–40% of duties, in accordance with all required safety procedures.Additional Physical RequirementsLifting and Carrying: Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials, tools, and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. routinely and up to 75 lbs. occasionally, as required by specific tasks.Mobility: Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, kneeling, and climbing throughout the workday in order to access equipment, mechanical rooms, and work areas.Working at Heights: Ability to safely climb ladders, work on scaffolding, and access elevated platforms or restricted spaces to perform maintenance duties.Please note: A starting rate shall be established for each position that is seventy-five percent (75%) of minimum scale hourly rate for the position. All newly hired employees will be paid the starting rate (75%) for his or her position for six months, after which he or she shall be paid at a rate that is one hundred percent 100% of the minimum scale. In all other respects these employees will be treated the same under the Collective Bargaining Agreement as any other new hire.
