Salem Public Schools & Salem YMCA Summer Academy School Adjustment Counselors [SY 2025-2026]Program Overview: Salem Public Schools, in partnership with the Salem YMCA, is seeking dedicated educators for our 5-week Summer Academy. This program provides enriching, project-based learning (PBL) for rising 1st through 5th-grade students.Location: Horace Mann Laboratory School (HMLS)Program Dates: July 6th - August 7th, 2026 (5 Weeks)Mandatory Training Days: June 24th & June 25thSchool Adjustment Counselor (SAC)The SAC provides therapeutic interventions and behavioral support to ensures students with high-level needs can thrive in the summer environment.SAC Program Hours: 9:00 AM - 2:30 PM | Monday - FridayPre-Program Hours: Required hours in June to gather student behavioral plans, 504s/IEPs, and consult with school-year staff on necessary interventions.Compensation: Hourly rate of $45/ hourSAC-Specific Responsibilities:Preparation: Review behavioral plans and intervention history for identified students prior to July 6th.Intervention: Facilitate individual/group counseling and social skills groups (conflict resolution, mindfulness, etc.).Crisis Management: Conduct mental health and risk assessments as needed.Consultation: Act as the primary resource for teachers regarding emotional or behavioral concerns.Behavioral Support: Conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and develop Positive Behavioral Intervention Plans (PBIPs) for the summer session.Qualifications:Licensure: Current MA DESE licensure in appropriate field (Elementary, ESL, or School Adjustment Counselor).Education: Bachelor's degree required; at least 2 years of experience preferred.Mindset: Passionate about urban education and experienced in working with diverse student populations.Skills: Ability to build positive relationships quickly and implement age-appropriate academic or therapeutic activities.Equal Opportunity EmployerSalem Public School District is committed to maintaining a work and learning environment free from discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, pregnancy, gender identity, sexual orientation, marital/civil union status, ancestry, place of birth, age, citizenship status, veteran status, political affiliation, genetic information or disability, as defined and required by state and federal laws.
