Job DescriptionAmerican Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN ICU - Intensive Care Unit for a travel nursing job in Rapid City, South Dakota.Job Description & RequirementsSpecialty: ICU - Intensive Care UnitDiscipline: RNStart Date: 06/08/2026Duration: 13 weeks48 hours per weekShift: 12 hours, daysEmployment Type: TravelAssignment OverviewShift: Days, 4x12hrsHours: 48 hrs/wkStart Date: Jun 8, 2026Length: 13 weeksOpenings: 1DescriptionAmerican Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week travel assignment in Rapid City, SD, requiring a minimum of 1.5–2 years of ICU experience, Epic proficiency, and TNCC certification.DetailsMixed ICU setting divided into pods, encompassing MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU across 39 bedsComplex ICU patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma casesDiagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multiple system trauma — heavy trauma populationCardiac experience (CABG/TAVR, 24–48 hrs post-op) is preferred but not requiredPatient ratios of 1:1, 1:2, or rarely 1:3, acuity-dependent12-hour day shifts, 48 hours per weekCharting via Epic (required); also uses Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter) and OmnicellEvery other weekend rotation (not guaranteed)No on-call requirementsFloating to adult floors, including Med/Surg or Tele at a 1:4 ratio, is possible but not commonRequirementsActive RN license — South Dakota (SD) or Compact license requiredCurrent certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must be obtained prior to start if not already held)Minimum 1.5–2 years of ICU experience, excluding travel experienceEpic EMR experience requiredExperience with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralyticsExperience with hemodynamic lines, ventilator management, proning, and telemetryExperience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferredStrong critical thinking, assessment skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environmentTwo professional references dated within the past yearDOB and SSN required for considerationAdditional InformationCandidates must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility to be eligibleMinimum of one prior travel assignment required — first-time travelers will not be consideredPermanent staff who have previously worked at the facility must wait one year before returning as a travelerOrientation includes hospital orientation, one 8-hour department orientation, one 4-hour iLearns session, and two 12-hour floor orientation shiftsUnit support includes 1–2 CNAs per unit, a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, a resource nurse (staffing dependent), 24/7 RT coverage, and 3 intensivists on days / 2 on nights plus an APP on nightsICU CRNs place all midlines; phlebotomy handles peripheral blood draws onlyMay be expected to precept nursing studentsNo RTO approved during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August)RTO of up to 7 days may be approved, but the contract must be extended to fulfill the full 13-week commitmentRequired scrub color: NavyFree parking available on-siteAmerican Traveler Job ID #P-708622.
