We believe that food services are a very important feature in the ministry of hospitality we offer to campers and conference center guests. We are looking for someone with creativity, enthusiasm, maturity and common sense to be both a leader and member of our team. Currently we serve 30,000 meals annually.We would like 'scratch cooking' to be utilized much more over 'heat and eat' as a method for preparing our meals. The meals prepared should utilize fresh produce when available (we have our own garden) and be colorful and flavorful. It is important to limit food waste. We compost whatever we can and would like our food service operation to align with Ferncliff's commitment to sustainable practices.Ferncliff's food service staff should be friendly and attentive to our guest's needs. A spirit of hospitality should be modeled and encouraged amongst our staff. We see providing excellent food service to our guests as a direct way in which we fulfill our mission of making a positive difference in the world by opening eyes, minds and hearts to God's transforming love.General Responsibility: We are looking for a dedicated cook to plan, prepare, cook and coordinate high-quality meals in accordance with Ferncliff standards and health and safety regulations. This person should have a high level of attention to detail.COOK - Specific Responsibilities:1. Accommodate food allergies and special diets.2. Assist with stocking and setting up the kitchen stations.3. Prepare food including cleaning and cutting the ingredients and cooking main dishes, desserts, appetizers and snacks.4. Plate prepared foods based on senior chef's guidance.5. Work with Front of House (FOH) to ensure that meals are completed according to dietary request and served in a timely manner.6. Wash and clean the kitchen and cooking utensils, store the equipment at the end of shift.7. Ensure that the kitchen operation procedures and hygiene meet food safety standards and regulations.8. Work with Lead Cook and Food Services Director to develop/prepare fresh menus that meet dietary concerns and restrictions.9. Work to make our operations, facilities and programs more environmentally sustainable.10. Keep current on the latest trends, technology, and best hospitality practices for camps, and retreat centers.Qualifications:Demonstrated skills in effective food service operations.Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely.Basic knife skills required.ServSafe food handling certification is strongly preferred.Sound knowledge of cooking methods and techniques.Proven experience working as a Cook.Baking experience a plus.The ability to follow recipes.The ability to work in a team.Person that works well in a fast-paced environment.Nutritional and dietary knowledge preferred.Reliable transportation.
