This paid position offers the opportunity to develop your skills in heavy equipment operation while working on challenging construction utility projects. *Responsibilities* * Operate horizontal directional drilling machinery with precision, ensuring accurate underground utility installation according to project plans. * Conduct routine maintenance and safety checks on drilling equipment, including mechanical inspections and troubleshooting. * Utilize utility locating tools to identify existing underground infrastructure before drilling begins, preventing damage and ensuring safety. * Coordinate with construction teams to plan drilling paths, manage site logistics, and execute excavation activities safely. * Follow all federal construction safety regulations, equipment safety procedures, and site-specific safety protocols during daily operations. * Assist with the operation of related heavy machinery such as loaders, excavators, dozers, backhoes, graders, dump trucks, water trucks, tankers, and paving equipment as needed for site preparation and support. * Maintain detailed records of drilling activities, equipment maintenance logs, and safety inspections to ensure compliance and accountability. *Qualifications* * Proven experience operating horizontal directional drills or similar construction machinery in utility or excavation projects. * Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to perform basic maintenance on heavy equipment including Caterpillar machinery. * Experience with construction utility work, excavation, grading, and site preparation is highly desirable. * Knowledge of federal construction safety regulations and adherence to equipment safety procedures is essential. * Skilled in utility locating techniques using specialized tools to identify underground utilities prior to drilling. * Valid driver’s license with experience driving equipment trailer * Ability to work safely on construction sites while following all safety regulations and protocols. * Construction site experience with heavy equipment operation such as excavators and loaders will enhance your success in this role.
