Job SummaryIndependently performs duties of certified peace officer using standard operating procedures of law enforcement for the safety and protection of university students, faculty and staff and general public. Performs assigned and on view investigations. Assists in related areas; provides special service/assistance as needed.Minimum QualificationsHigh School diploma or equivalent.Must be 21 years of age or older and be eligible for license to carry a firearm.Must have current OPOTA Peace Officer certification or prior OPOTA Peace Officer certification and the ability to refresh within one year of hire or OPOTA Certification before date of hire.Must periodically qualify in use of firearms.Must have a currently valid driver's license and establish driver eligibility under the University's Motor Vehicle Policy.Must pass all of the following: written exam, physical abilities test, Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory test, thorough background check and panel interview.Must be able to work rotating shifts.For Lateral Transfers: Current OPOTA Certification. Two (2) years experience and current appointment as a full time or part time (20 hours a week) law enforcement officer. No discipline in the past two (2) years.This position is classified as essential, meaning that the employee will be required to report to work during emergency situations, inclement weather, or other unforeseen circumstances that disrupt normal operations. Flexibility and the ability to work outside of regular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, may be required as needed to ensure continuity of business operations.Preferred QualificationsCurrent OPOTA Peace Officer certification.Prior OPOTA Peace Officer certification and the ability to refresh within one (1) year of hire.
