The company develops and operates multifamily, mixed-use and commercial projects across several national markets.This opportunity is specifically suited to a Project Manager or Senior Project Manager from a general contractor who wants to transition to the ownership and development side.The CompanyThe business is an established Chicago-based developer with an integrated platform spanning acquisitions, development, construction and property management. Its portfolio includes ground-up multifamily, mixed-use, commercial, adaptive reuse and renovation projects located across the United States. The position is based in downtown Chicago and offers hybrid flexibility.What You’ll Be DoingRepresent ownership throughout the development and construction lifecycleSupport the delivery of large ground-up multifamily, mixed-use and commercial developmentsManage relationships with general contractors, architects, engineers and third-party consultantsReview drawings for constructability, code compliance, budgeting and operational considerationsCoordinate design development, permitting, utilities, municipal approvals and entitlementsAssist with bid packages, contractor selection, bid analysis and GMP negotiationsMonitor project budgets, schedules, procurement and overall riskReview change orders, payment applications, owner draws and cost reportingConduct site visits and hold contractors accountable for quality, schedule and contractual requirementsProvide project updates to internal leadership, lenders and investment partnersCoordinate project closeout and turnover to the property management teamTravel periodically to developments across the company’s national portfolioBecome increasingly involved in the financial and strategic sides of real estate developmentWho This Is For:You are likely working as a Project Manager or Senior Project Manager for a general contractor and have built a strong foundation in construction delivery. You understand how projects are built, but you now want greater involvement in the decisions that shape them.The ideal background includes:Approximately 5 to 10 years of experience with a general contractor, construction manager or real estate developerExperience managing ground-up multifamily, mixed-use or commercial constructionStrong understanding of drawings, contracts, budgets, schedules, change orders and owner drawsExperience coordinating architects, engineers, subcontractors and other project stakeholdersA bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Civil Engineering, Real Estate Development or a related fieldStrong communication, organization and problem-solving skillsThe ability to travel to project sites when requiredA genuine interest in building a long-term career in real estate development.
