Description:Role OverviewThe Mid-Level Frontend Developer supports the development and enhancement of the Maryland Paid Family and Medical Leave Insurance (MD FAMLI) web experience. This role focuses on building accessible, responsive web components and contributing to the logged-out site and design system. The developer works collaboratively with design, product, and engineering teams to deliver high-quality, user-centered solutions.Key ResponsibilitiesBuild and maintain reusable web components that support the MD FAMLI websiteImplement UI enhancements that improve usability, performance, and accessibilityTroubleshoot and resolve frontend defects with minimal oversightApply consistent styling and contribute to scalable frontend patternsDevelop responsive, accessible interfaces using modern HTML and CSSContribute to the logged-out site built with Eleventy and Decap CMSSupport the evolution of the Maryland Web Design System (MDWDS), extending the U.S. Web Design System (USWDS)Participate in accessibility audits and implement remediation fixesCollaborate with designers, product managers, and engineers to translate requirements into working solutionsContribute to component documentation and support knowledge sharing across the team Required TechnicalSkillsSolid foundation in JavaScript and modern frontend development practicesExperience with a modern JavaScript framework such as Svelte, Vue, or EmberStrong proficiency in modern HTML and CSS, including responsive designExperience using modern CSS features and best practices (within the past ~3 years)Experience building or working with custom elements / web components (e.g., Lit, StencilJS, or similar)Preferred QualificationsExperience with Ruby on RailsExperience contributing to or maintaining a design system or component libraryFamiliarity with Eleventy (11ty) and/or Decap CMSExperience implementing accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG)Familiarity with the U.S. Web Design System (USWDS) or similar government design standards Level Expectations (Mid-Level)Works independently on well-defined tasks and componentsRequires minimal guidance for implementation but seeks input on complex decisionsContributes to team discussions and proposes practical frontend solutionsBalances quality, accessibility, and delivery timelines effectively
