Position: Unión de Activistas organizer
Reports to: Board
Status: 20 hours a week, Entry to Mid-level position, Non-exempt
Wages: $18-19 starting pay

Organization Overview: CALC educates and organizes for peace, human dignity, social, racial and economic justice. We seek to collaborate with organizations, institutions, and individuals to bring about lasting change.
Position Overview: The Organizer for this program will be accountable to the CALC Board of Directors, function as part of the CALC staff team, and work in collaboration with the organizers for Springfield Alliance for Equity and Respect (SAfER) and Justice and Equity, as well as community partners, volunteers and interns, including BIPOC and white allies. CALC seeks accountability to a justice agenda from public institutions. This position will have a particular focus on equity issues in Springfield. The Organizer will focus on the following priorities:
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Build and nurture a cohort of youth activists primarily from the Latinx community
Convene meetings of Unión de Activistas
Visit families to help parents understand goals of the group; gather and file necessary permission for student participation in activities
Make and maintain connections with community partners/allies
Find or develop civic engagement, cultural and service opportunities
Plan cultural education which can build self-esteem
Build a leadership development program – including training in skills such as setting ground rules, facilitation, and event planning
Identify or develop workshops for student enrichment
Keep student files up to date, including monitoring student academic progress
Tutor or help find tutors when needed
Help students gain skills for the world of work and higher education, including resume building
Chaperone at events students attend such as conferences, retreats, or events out of town
Maintain Unión de Activistas social media presence
Write press releases, newsletter articles about Unión de Activistas work
Some anticipated activities:
Organize student and parent-driven School Board Candidate Forums
Organize young voter registration and engagement campaigns
Lead Unión de Activistas participation in youth radio project
Internal organization responsibilities:
Attend staff meetings, prepare staff logs and work plans
Attend board meetings or trainings as requested
Maintain Unión de Activistas Google Drive
support CALC events, promote CALC visibility and membership
Consider the fundraising potential of all program events/activities
Participate in CALC fundraising events, donor visits and grants site visits, as appropriate

Demonstrated experience and passion for working with youth
Excellent people skills and a demonstrated aptitude for organizing and networking
Initiative, excellent time-management, and prioritizing skills
Demonstrated understanding of organizational accountability with a clear commitment to confidentiality and a strong sense of ethics
Ability to work independently, as part of a staff team and with the Board of Directors
Demonstrated capacity to navigate differences of opinion and work well with people of diverse backgrounds, ages, genders, and personal/cultural styles
Commitment to teaching and learning among colleagues
Strong bilingual written and oral communication skills
Commitment to responding to all communications in a timely manner
Tech and social media literacy
Availability: The job will include some daytime hours and may include evening and weekend hours to accommodate meeting with students and families.
