General Maintenance
Teamster Bus Internal posting open to eligible Teamsters Bus Union employees with at least one year of seniority. Supervised by the Transportation Manager, this position has no supervisory responsibility and involves general upkeep and maintenance of bus facility and vehicles used to support the transportation needs of Otsego County. Examples of Duties Essential job functions include: Performing general facility maintenance duties such as cleaning offices, bathrooms, windows, mowing/snow plowing facility grounds, and painting. Identifying repair issues and needs while engaged in facility maintenance, attending to minor problems and repairs, and reporting more complex maintenance needs to the Transportation Manager or mechanics. Performing daily walk-throughs of the bus facility and grounds to identify and resolve problems at the earliest point-in-time. Washing, sanitizing, and cleaning buses. Performing general support and maintenance duties in any area of operations requiring unskilled or semi-skilled labor input. Performing other duties as directed. Typical Qualifications Required knowledge, skills, abilities, and minimum qualifications include: High school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of experience in facility maintenance. The county, at its discretion, may consider an alternative combination of formal education and work experience. Possession of a valid Michigan Commercial Driver's License. Negative results on pre-employment and random USDOT drug and alcohol screens as required for a "safety sensitive" position. Knowledge in the usage of tools and equipment used in facility maintenance. Knowledge and skill in the use of a variety of landscape equipment and hand tools used in grounds maintenance and the repair, installation, and maintenance of county buildings and property. Ability to establish effective working relationships and use good judgment, initiative, and resourcefulness when dealing with county employees, contractors to the county, representatives of other governmental units, professional contacts, elected officials, bus patrons, and the public. Ability to learn new technology required for the job. Supplemental Information Physical demands and work environment include: The employee is frequently required to stand, sit, walk, climb, use hands and fingers, talk, and hear. The employee uses hand strength to grasp tools and may work on uneven surfaces. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, such as to operate and repair vibrating machinery, use wrenches, hand tools, etc., and operate motorized equipment and vehicles. The employee must lift or push/pull objects of up to 50 lbs. without assistance. Accommodation will be made, as needed, for employees required to lift or move objects that exceed this weight. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outdoor weather conditions. The employee works near moving mechanical equipment.
