IL - Food Service Worker

Job Summary: Performs a variety of assigned duties in food service to provide customers with quick satisfying service. Essential Functions and Duties:Ability to perform simple mathematical equations. Knowledgeable in principles of food preparation. Demonstrates knowledge of sanitation principles. Understands and is able to demonstrate HACCP principles. Demonstrates CPR principles through daily actions. Participates in Performance Improvement activities within the department. Must be able to read, write and use the telephone in order to communicate ideas and information. Knowledgeable in use of computers is very helpful. Position Qualifications:• High school diploma or equivalent (GED) • One year of job-related prior experience • Able to read and write in order to communicate ideas and information to others.• Ability to apply common sense to solve occasional problems.• Ability to provide daily service to all customers • Knowledgeable in use of computers Preferred Skills and Abilities: • Sanitation certificate is desirable but not necessary • Ability to communicate in Spanish is helpful but not necessary Physical Demands:• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. • Requires the ability to push, bend, stretch, walk, and stand at least one hour. • Must be able to lift above the shoulder level or below the knee level. • Requires clarity of vision, ability to hear and speak.• Must be able to focus on specific tasks despite "noisy environment"• Requires an extremely demanding level of attention. • Requires use of hands to carry, type, cook, etc. • Understands that there may be some risk of exposure to air and blood borne pathogens. Function-Duties and Responsibilities:Prepares salads and deserts -salad preparer• Responsible for baking special dessert items (apple crisp, peach/apple cobbler, etc.)• Completes all required baking per daily production sheets. • Prepares daily salads and desserts for patients, cafeteria and catering functions.• Sets-up and delivers salads and desserts per production sheets for patients • Sets-up and delivers salads and desserts per catering request form• Delivers and sets-up salad and dessert stations for daily lunch meal. • Assures that tray line begins on time and proper portions are served per diet order Supports patient meal/snack service -tray line worker• Assures that tray line begins on time and proper portions are served per diet order• Places patient's choices of appropriate food items on meal trays • Delivers meals to patients bed side with no delays and provides patient assistance with tray set up• Collects meal trays from patient bed side according to established time periods.• Assists in dish room, 'breaking down' the patient carts• Prepares nourishments according to established guidelines and delivers to units• Delivers late trays to patients Cashiers in cafeteria--cashier• Operates cash register accurately entering all cash and charge sales• Collects and verifies cash register bank.• Delivers and verifies daily cash deposits to accounting• Accurately matches register journal tape to cash in drawer• Daily sets-up cafeteria for meal service, stocking paper goods, turning on equipment, putting water in steam table, icing down soda machine, re-stocking chips, crackers, juices, milk and condiments.• Sweeps and mops daily, wipe down dining room tables, chairs and booths daily. • Continually polices work area to meet department standards • Displays any special signage daily Takes grill orders for evening meals-grill order taker • Assists with daily preparation of food items per prep and production sheet • Pre prepares all food items per preparation and production sheets for patient and cafeteria meal service for next day. • Sets-up work station for evening grill. • Follows recipes for all pre-made salads and desserts • Cuts and wraps all desserts. • Takes customers orders. • Answers phone, takes orders, deliver orders or calls customer to pick-up their orders. Washes dishes, pots and pans-dish washer• Serves on tray line in assigned position. Performs tasks to facilitate work flow on tray line. • Follows all guidelines for proper cleaning and sanitizing of equipment and utensils • Strips carts and trays; sorts and rinses dishes and silverware. • Loads, operates and unloads dishwasher. • Stacks and stores washed items. • Cleans dish machine, adds washing solutions, etc• Checks dish machine temperature• Assures that pots/pans are washed using 3sink method• Pulls trash from cans and replaces with clean bags• Collects and disposes of trash and debris into proper, facility waste receptacles Follows sanitation guidelines• Adheres to "clean as you go" principles• Completes assigned cleaning within established time frame and documents the same • Understands and is able to demonstrate knowledge of HACCP principles Promotes positive customer relations• Successfully completes CPR training• Fosters a positive relationship between patient, visitors and hospital staff • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.• Is able to verbalize department's Performance Improvement plan and participates in same• Answers the telephone in a courteous and professional manner. Attends and completes in-services and training sessions.
