Security Engineering Intern - Remote
The Security Engineering Intern is part of the Engineering department, which resides on the Product Engineering team and reports to the Director of Product Engineering. As our Security Engineering Intern you will gain experience as a security engineer while helping to build and maintain cybersecurity tools within the CIS Managed Service offerings. This role requires a strong computer science background with an emphasis in cybersecurity technology and tools. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of security monitoring, including host and network-based detection systems in addition to SIEM/SOAR technology.What You'll DoAssist the SIEM/SOAR development team with managing the product backlog and prioritizing work based on SOC operational needs and organizational objectivesAssist with testing activities as part of learning the product suite.Assist in defining and building detection use casesBuild internal and customer facing dashboardsAssist in reviewing and improving product and workflow documentationBuild customer onboarding documents for log sourcesInvestigate, recommend, and implement ways that AI tools can assist in accelerating workflows and document creationCommunicate product information to both technical and non-technical stakeholdersParticipate in agile ceremonies such as stand-ups, story refinements, and team retrospectives; ensure the team has a clear understanding of priorities, milestones, and next steps in each product’s lifecycleStay current on technological trends and work with various stakeholders and teams to understand our users’ needs and determine how to deliver the most value to customersOther tasks and responsibilities as assignedWhat You'll NeedA student in their junior year or above working towards a bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or Software Engineering or equivalent demonstrated experience and knowledgeOverall GPA is 3.0 or higher and Major GPA 2.8 or higherFamiliarity of SIEM/SOAR platforms and security event management, including log ingestion, correlation, and alertingKnowledge of Git or other version control systemAbility to communicate effectively with a remote teamPositive customer service and team-oriented attitudeDrive towards continual professional growth and improvementMust be authorized to work in the United StatesIt's a Plus If You HaveWorking knowledge of UNIX-based operating systems.Working knowledge of DEVO SIEM/SOARFamiliarity with Endpoint Monitoring and Network Monitoring toolsFundamental understanding of agile principles and corresponding methodologies.Experience with CI/CD automation: testing, builds, deploys, monitoring.At CIS, we are committed to providing an inclusive environment in which the diverse backgrounds, experiences, and views of our employees, members, and customers are valued and respected.
