Senior Software Engineer

Locally Compact, Inc. Position: Senior Software Engineer (SSE2686) Responsible for developing the company’s production trading systems and data pipelines that drive machine learning in production and research. Work closely with both the finance and research teams to contribute to a platform that supports a diverse set of requirements and complex trading behaviors. Specific duties include: 1) design real-time distributed trading systems that place orders across a global set of markets and asset classes using Go and C++; 2) build and optimize large-scale data infrastructure and stream processing systems for historical and real-time machine learning feature pipelines using Python, Airflow, Go, and beam; 3) develop and maintain observability and remediation tools to monitor and analyze trading performance and risk, ensuring reliability and transparency in operations; 4) operate and scale mission-critical, large-scale production systems; 5) integrate with new assets and markets and drive clarity on the resulting requirements; 6) improve the resilience and performance of trading system; 7) build advanced tooling to unify data from diverse vendors, standardizing symbol mappings to ensure consistency and accuracy across systems 8) lead complex, company-wide projects by collaborating cross-functionally with across research, legal, trading, finance operations data, and infra teams to deliver comprehensive end-to-end accounting and reporting systems; and 9) guide and support the growth of other engineers on the team through mentorship and sharing expertise, best practices, and knowledge. May telecommute from anywhere in the U.S. This position requires a PhD or equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field and 3 years related experience. Must also have 36 months of demonstrated experience with each of the following: (1) Developing electronic trading system for fixed-income financial instruments and equities such as CDS, IRS, and ETF; (2) Assisting in developing strategies for improving development processes and tools; (3) Building large-scale infrastructure applications and coding in industry standard languages such as C, C++, and Java; (4) Applying algorithms and core computer science concepts to real world systems as evidenced by recognizing and matching patterns from different areas of computer science in production systems; and (5) Designing and completing medium to large features independently without guidance using Python, relational databases and SQL, and Code editors (VIM), and revision control systems (GIT). Employer will accept experience gained concurrently. Salary: $225,000 to $280,000/year. Full-time, may telecommute from anywhere in the U.S. HQ in Berkeley, CA.
