The Asian American Drug Abuse Program (AADAP) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to serving Asian Pacific Islanders and other underserved communities with substance abuse services throughout Los Angeles County. Programs and services are provided to all individuals regardless of race or ethnicity.
Department Overview
The Development department leads AADAP's fundraising, marketing, public relations, and communications strategies to advance brand awareness, strengthen fund development, expand resources, and cultivate strategic community partnerships.
Position Summary
The Development & Communications Coordinator supports the Director of Development by managing the agency’s fundraising and communications strategy. The Coordinator serves as a key liaison for internal and external stakeholders to advance brand awareness, strengthen fund development, and increase strategic partnerships.
Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities
Marketing & Communications
Lead and manage AADAP’s annual editorial communications calendar, developing the agency’s communications strategy, project plans, and weekly content.
Create and manage agency social media, including content creation and execution.
Organize monthly social media analytics reports to track performance, identify trends, and provide data-driven recommendations for communications and outreach efforts.
Convene program staff for cross-departmental collaboration across communications and special projects.
Implement agency-wide communications processes and systems to support cross-departmental collaboration and brand consistency.
Develop graphic design elements for fundraising campaigns, agency branded sites/platforms, outreach and printed materials, branded apparel, and other assets.
Maintain and update the agency website, partnering across programs and leadership.
Donor Engagement & Management
Organize the planning, preparation, and coordinated execution of annual fundraisers (e.g., Team AADAP, gala, direct mail) and make strategic recommendations for other fundraising opportunities.
Assist in tracking and producing budget recommendations for line items related to fundraising.
Organize donor information across fundraising campaigns for database entry and strategic outreach by assisting with donor database administration within Salesforce (including staff training, data integrity, reporting, and process improvement).
Assist in communicating with donors, corporate sponsors, and key stakeholders on fundraising opportunities.
Special Projects
Represent the agency at community and partner engagement events, providing photography and social media support.
Collaborate with Managers and Coordinators by communicating departmental priorities, gathering feedback, and facilitating follow-up actions.
Support agency staff culture initiatives inclusive of all-staff meetings, annual Board dinner, Ohana Day, and other events where relevant.
Supervise and mentor interns and volunteers as requested.
Administrative Support
Oversee the inventory, ordering, and purchasing process of agency brochures, outreach materials, and relevant office supplies.
Request bids from vendors for various supplies for the agency; serve as primary liaison with external vendors and partners.
Coordinate, receive, and organize agency in-kind distribution processes.
Assist in researching public policy information relating to fund development where relevant.
Support the Director of Development with various clerical work and other duties as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of experience in communications, nonprofit fundraising, development, marketing, or a related field.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Marketing, Public Relations, Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, or a related field (or equivalent work experience in place of a degree).
Technical Skills: Demonstrated ability to manage cloud files, documents, spreadsheets, and team communications using Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 platforms.
Transportation: Valid California Driver's License, auto insurance, and reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills
Digital Marketing certifications.
Experience with fundraising and communication systems including Salesforce, Canva, and Mailchimp.
Background in coordinating fundraising campaigns, donor communications, direct mail, or special events.
Bilingual or bicultural proficiency in Spanish, Korean, Mandarin, Cantonese, Khmer (Cambodian), or other languages reflective of the communities served by AADAP.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
Experience with social media content development and stakeholder engagement across platforms.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with high attention to detail.
Strong writing, editing, project management, and organizational skills.
Strong interpersonal, teamwork, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize competing deadlines, and collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
Ability to establish and maintain positive, collaborative working relationships with supervisors, team members, donors, community partners, vendors, and the general public.
Demonstrates cultural awareness and empathy across race/ethnicity, age groups, gender identity, sexual orientation, spiritual beliefs, socioeconomic status, and diverse cultures.
Ability to get along well with others, be punctual, pleasant, and tactful with professional appearance and conduct.
Special Requirements
Employment contingent upon successful background check clearance.
Permanent resident or U.S. Citizen; proof of work eligibility required upon hire.
Must demonstrate three (3) years of a recovery or drug-free lifestyle as of the date of application.
Must provide proof of full vaccination and 1st Booster against COVID-19 upon hire.
Work Schedule, Travel & Physical Demands
Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week (9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.); requires flexibility for occasional evening and weekend events.
Travel: Occasional local travel within Los Angeles County for events and community outreach.
Physical Requirements: Frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking, reading, writing, and computer use. Occasional lifting of materials (frequent 10–25 lbs, occasionally >25 lbs for moving/organizing supplies). Occasional bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching. Works primarily indoors with occasional outdoor event coverage.

Pay: $22.69 - $32.58 per hour
