Master Mechanic
Job DescriptionThe Master Mechanic is responsible for independently diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing a wide range of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel systems, including heavy-duty equipment, facility machinery, pumps, and conveyors. This role ensures equipment reliability and operational efficiency while adhering to all safety standards and may include mentoring and training other maintenance personnel.Job type: Full-timeReports To: Maintenance ManagerFLSA Status: Non-ExemptDuties And Responsibilities Independently diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. Perform maintenance and repairs on heavy-duty diesel equipment, trucks, and trailers. Maintain and repair stationary equipment including recycling lines, balers, wire tie machines, and other facility machinery. Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair pumps, conveyors, and fabrication systems. Work with PLCs and other automated control systems to identify and correct faults. Perform facility site maintenance as needed to ensure operational efficiency and safety. Assist in training and mentoring maintenance personnel, including Preventative Maintenance Technicians and Mechanics. Perform preventative and corrective maintenance tasks to minimize downtime and equipment failure. Fabricate or modify parts and components as needed for equipment repairs. Collaborate with supervisors and team members to prioritize and complete maintenance tasks. Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance activities, and parts usage. Adhere to all safety policies, procedures, and regulations while performing duties. Assist with any other maintenance duties as directed by management, including tasks normally performed by Preventative Maintenance Technicians or Mechanics. Perform additional duties as assigned. Requirements Proven experience and competence in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel systems. Strong knowledge of electrical systems, including low voltage through 480V. Proficiency with hydraulic systems, pumps, and associated equipment. Skilled in fabrication, modification, and repair of parts and machinery components. Experience with heavy-duty diesel equipment, trucks, trailers, and stationary facility equipment. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail in performing maintenance tasks. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while prioritizing multiple tasks. Demonstrated commitment to following all company safety policies and procedures. Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with ability to mentor and train other maintenance personnel. SAFETYWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, and household and commercial waste. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.This position requires company-provided safety equipment, and any additional personal protective equipment deemed necessary by the company to ensure a safe work environment. This may include a hard hat, eye protection, hearing protection, uniform, safety vest, and safety boots.
