You will influence every major technical decision and seeyour work running on real hardware within months, not years.The RoleYou will own the balance of plant for our power packages: everything that has to work for thepackage to turn fuel into electrons safely and reliably. Fuel gas conditioning and delivery, lubeoil, cooling and heat rejection, compressed air, exhaust and emissions control, water treatment,drains and vents, and the process requirements for the instrumentation and controls that tiethem together.This is a design role first: roughly 60% process design and engineering documentation, 25%vendor packages, and 15% in the field seeing your systems built and run. You will own theprocess discipline. We care most about first-principles thinking, discipline around processsafety, and how fast you move from a P&ID to a working plant.Your First YearOwn the complete balance-of-plant design package for our power package, from designbasis through P&IDs, specifications, and procurementCarry it through fabrication, first fire, and performance testing at our test facility outsideCarson CityStandardize it so every package after the first deploys faster, cheaper, and more reliablyat customer sitesWhat You'll Work OnProcess Design and DocumentationTranslate package and site requirements into functional requirements for each system,and define its process, mechanical, electrical, and controls interfaces with the rest of thepackageSize and select equipment from first principles: bound the problem with order-of-magnitude estimates, then close the design with heat and mass balances, hydraulics,and exchanger duty.Design the fuel gas conditioning and delivery system: filtration and coalescing, pressureregulation, dew-point and superheat control, heating, and compression where sitepressure requires it, against fuel composition and Wobbe Index limitsDesign the emissions control train (SCR, oxidation catalyst) and the water treatment andreagent handling systems behind itOwn the design basis, PFDs, P&IDs, heat and material balances, line lists, andequipment and instrument datasheets, with revision control from concept to as-builtWrite equipment and package specifications that vendors can bid and build to withoutambiguityOwn the process intent of the control system: control narratives, cause-and-effectmatrices, safety instrumented function definitions, and start-up and shutdownsequences. Our controls partner implements what you define.Process SafetyLead HAZID, HAZOP, and LOPA reviews and drive actions to closureDesign relief, venting, gas detection, isolation, and safe shutdown systemsApply ASME B31.3 and Section VIII, API 614, NFPA 37, and IEC 61511 / ISA 84, andknow when and how they bind the designSet the safety culture on a small team: we move fast, and the process side is where wecannot get it wrongVendor and Package ManagementRun RFQs, evaluate technical bids, and negotiate scope splits for skids, heatexchangers, compressors, filtration, valves, instruments, and packaged systemsReview vendor drawings, attend factory acceptance tests, and hold vendors to spec andscheduleCommissioning SupportDevelop commissioning plans, test procedures, and acceptance criteria for the systemsyou designedSupport first fire and performance testing, troubleshoot in the field, run root cause, andfeed lessons back into the designYou Might Be a Great Fit If...A degree in Chemical Engineering or a closely related field, and 8+ years in processdesignYou have been the lead process engineer on at least one greenfield unit or facility, fromdesign basis through P&IDs, specifications, procurement, and commissioning.
