Network Administrator
Network / Systems Administrator – Data Manager / DBACSA Ocean Sciences Inc. (CSA) is seeking a Network / Systems Administrator – Data Manager / DBA to manage and maintain the company's network, server, and cloud infrastructure, database systems, and data protection strategies. This position plays a key role in ensuring the availability, security, and performance of CSA's IT systems in support of the company's environmental, oceanographic, and geophysical programs.This position is responsible for the day-to-day administration, security, and performance of CSA's network and server infrastructure, cloud and on-premises storage, and Microsoft SQL Server databases. Responsibilities span systems administration, data management and governance, backup and disaster recovery, and network security, serving as a senior technical resource for IT operations. The position works closely with IT leadership to modernize infrastructure, strengthen cybersecurity posture, and maintain clear operational responsibilities include:Administer and maintain AWS, Wasabi cloud storage, and on-premises Windows Server environments, ensuring availability, performance, security, and operational reliabilityAdminister enterprise network and system infrastructure, including connectivity, user access, security controls, and infrastructure troubleshootingAdminister QNAP and Synology NAS environments, including storage provisioning, permissions, data organization, synchronization, and capacity managementPerform data management and governance duties, including data storage strategies, access controls, retention, organization, and policy complianceManage Microsoft SQL Server databases as DBA, including security, user permissions, backups, performance monitoring, health checks, and recovery operationsDesign, administer, and monitor enterprise backup infrastructure using Veeam, maintaining local repositories and Wasabi object storage for offsite backup and disaster recoveryDevelop and maintain backup, retention, and recovery strategies supporting business continuity and data-loss preventionPerform Windows Server administration, including Active Directory, user and group management, permissions, and server configurationManage server patching and maintenance, including OS updates, security patches, and validation of server health following updatesAssist with administration of Windows workstations, including security patching through FortiClient, endpoint troubleshooting, and security complianceAssist with network security operations, including firewall administration, endpoint protection, VPN connectivity, and security monitoringMonitor infrastructure health and performance across servers, databases, storage, cloud environments, backups, and network systems, proactively resolving issuesAssist with infrastructure design, implementation, migration, and optimization of on-premises and cloud-based systemsMaintain documentation of IT infrastructure, configurations, security practices, backup procedures, and disaster recovery proceduresTroubleshoot complex issues spanning networking, Windows infrastructure, cloud services, databases, storage, and endpoint systemsPersonal attributes include:Strong analytical and problem-solving skillsHighly organized with excellent attention to detailAbility to work independently and manage multiple prioritiesClear communicator, comfortable working with both technical and non-technical staffProactive approach to identifying and resolving issues before they escalateRequired qualifications include:Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experienceDemonstrated experience administering Microsoft SQL Server databases in a production environmentExperience with Windows Server administration, including Active Directory and user/group managementExperience with enterprise backup solutions (e.g., Veeam) and cloud/object storage (e.g., AWS, Wasabi)Working knowledge of network administration, firewall/security tools, VPN, and endpoint protectionExperience with NAS platforms (QNAP, Synology), including storage provisioning and capacity managementStrong troubleshooting skills spanning networking, servers, databases, storage, and cloud environmentsStrong written communication skills for technical documentation (SOPs, reports)Desired qualifications include:AWS certification or hands-on experience with AWS infrastructure servicesVeeam certification or advanced backup and disaster recovery experienceExperience with Microsoft 365 / Copilot administration and SharePointPrior experience developing technology roadmaps or leading infrastructure modernization projectsApplicants must possess current, long-term authorization to work in the United States.
