Maintenance Technician
The Facilities Department seeks a maintenance professional experienced in HVAC who can make a meaningful impact to the department. The individual in this role will be responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting building systems, responding to service requests, and handling emergency repairs (this includes all actions necessary to render a situation, system, or component in a safe condition). The person will perform routine and preventative maintenance to keep our buildings and mechanical systems running smoothly.The School encourages candidates from under-represented groups and individuals who have demonstrated experience with diverse populations who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their service to apply.Responsibilities:Comply with health and safety directives to include the use and/or wearing of protective materialsRespond to verbal and written trouble calls. Perform emergency repairs to restore service, protect persons and abate damages to buildings and equipment. Notify appropriate trade and Supervisor of problems requiring additional detailed repairsObserves mechanical devices in operation and listens to sounds to locate cause of trouble to include removal and reinstallation of covers and access platesPerforms minor maintenance to include freeing clogged drains in sinks, showers, toilets, and tubs using plungers and or snakes.Check furnaces, boilers and heaters and other equipment and perform preventative maintenance as assigned, reset/restore service as neededReplace ceiling tilesReplace light bulbs, fluorescent tubes in all fixtures and furnitureLubricates equipment bearings and maintains oil levels in compressors as assignedClean interior/exterior of air handling units, room heaters, exhaust fans, circulators, air compressors, ventilators as assignedStarts devices to test their performance as assignedReplaces belts and filters on installed equipment as assignedProvides information regarding the purchase of parts and machinesInspect swimming pool mechanical equipmentTest emergency and exit lights. Replace bulbs/covers as neededAssists in testing security sensors and smoke/heat detectors/pull stations and cleaning of smoke detectorsInspect eye wash and drench stations as assignedInspect and test panic bar door alarmsCleans out debris from roof gutters/down spouts including removal of snow on roofs as assignedSubmit work status, performance, time and material reportsWork off tall ladders/scaffolding, and on rooftops.Work in confined spaces, crawl spaces, tunnels.Install and service branch electrical circuits, including circuit breakers, pulling and positioning wiring.Install/replace and service new light fixturesInstall communication cables and terminal boxes as neededPatch, repair, replace, paint drywall and plaster walls and ceilingsFabricate and repair wood trim and panelsPerform minor masonry tasks. Pointing, patching and small pad installation.Monitor and maintain electrical supply inventory including lamps, devices, wire etc.Assist Campus Safety with fire and lockdown drillsEvent support including sign placementPerform PM as assignedMaintain an interest in learning new ideasAbility to speak and listen effectively and respectfully with supervisors, customers, and employees of the schoolSnow removal as requiredEstablish and maintain a high level of customer serviceQualifications Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license8 years of related experience in specialized trade (HVAC)Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.Knowledge of use of woodworking equipmentKnowledge of use of metal working equipment, and torch cutting/heatingKnowledge of operating tractors, utility vehicles, trailers, etc.Knowledge of operating and maintaining snow removal equipmentBe able to work alone and make assessments and repairs with minimal supervisionPreferred certification in Universal EPA608Physical Demands/Work EnvironmentWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk.Sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear;Climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.Must be able to lift and/or move up to 80 pounds with appropriate equipment and assistance.Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, and vibration.Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and chemicals.The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.May be required to work overtime or weekends with minimal notice including being on call for a week at a time in a rotation of the team.Compensation$45 - $48 per hour based on trade skill and experience.We offer a competitive and attractive total compensation package in a stimulating and dynamic academic community.Application Instructions - Apply online and submit a resume for consideration.Please apply through the school's Career Center website.
