Sustaining Engineer, Mechanical

DescriptionThe Sustaining Engineer, Mechanical at Hyper Solutions is responsible for the ongoing mechanical engineering ownership, support, and continuous improvement of the company's released product portfolio. This role focuses on maintaining the reliability, manufacturability, quality, and performance of Hyper's power distribution equipment throughout the product lifecycle while supporting a rapidly growing manufacturing organization.Working closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Customer Support, and Product Engineering, the Sustaining Engineer provides hands-on engineering support for production and field issues, executes engineering changes, and drives continuous improvements that enhance product quality, serviceability, and cost.This position is well-suited for a mechanical engineer who enjoys solving real-world manufacturing and product challenges, collaborating across functions, and improving products already in production.Core ResponsibilitiesProvide hands-on mechanical engineering support for released products throughout their lifecycleExecute Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) for mechanical design updatesDrive continuous improvements in product reliability, manufacturability, serviceability, and costUpdate and maintain mechanical bills of material (BOMs), 3D models, fabrication drawings, and assembly documentationSupport New Product Introduction (NPI) transitions into production from a design-for-manufacturing perspectiveResolve production issues involving enclosures, sheet metal, weldments, fasteners, and mechanical fit and toleranceConduct GD&T reviews, tolerance stack-up analyses, and fit evaluations to prevent recurring assembly issuesSupport root cause investigations for mechanical nonconformances, assembly defects, and field failuresEvaluate component substitutions, supplier-driven design changes, and material obsolescenceAdditional ResponsibilitiesPartner with field service teams and customers to diagnose mechanical issues involving structural integrity, thermal performance, accessibility, and mountingSupport warranty investigations and mechanical reliability improvement initiativesEnsure continued compliance with applicable UL standards, customer specifications, and internal quality requirementsSupport product certifications, audits, and regulatory compliance activitiesApply structured problem-solving methodologies including 8D, A3, 5-Why, and Ishikawa analysisContribute to continuous improvement initiatives across Engineering and ManufacturingRequirementsBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline2+ years of mechanical engineering experience within a manufacturing environmentExperience supporting released products through sustaining, product, or manufacturing engineeringProficiency with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD softwareExperience creating fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, and engineering documentationWorking knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, sheet metal design, and fabrication processesUnderstanding of engineering change management (ECRs, ECOs) and document controlExperience conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective actionsAbility to read and interpret mechanical drawingsStrong communication and cross-functional collaboration skillsPreferred QualificationsExperience supporting power distribution equipment, electrical enclosures, switchboards, PDUs, RPPs, or switchgearFamiliarity with sheet metal fabrication, weldments, and powder coating processesKnowledge of UL 891, UL 67, or similar electrical product standardsExperience supporting products within data center, mission-critical infrastructure, or industrial electrical industriesExperience with ERP and PLM systems such as NetSuite, Arena, or similar platformsLean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement training or certificationsFamiliarity with electrical schematicsWhat Success Looks LikeReleased products remain reliable, manufacturable, and cost-effective throughout their lifecycleEngineering changes are implemented accurately and efficiently with minimal disruption to productionMechanical production and field issues are resolved quickly through effective root cause analysisContinuous improvements enhance product quality, manufacturability, serviceability, and customer satisfactionStrong collaboration across Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, and Customer Support drives timely issue resolutionProducts continue to meet UL, customer, and internal quality requirementsWhy Hyper?At Hyper, you'll play a key role in supporting the products that power some of the world's most critical data center and digital infrastructure environments. Actual salary may vary based on factors including experience, skills, certifications, and location. This hire will be eligible for discretionary bonus or incentive compensation.
