Position Overview:The CAPEX Project Engineer is responsible for planning, executing, and delivering capital investment (CAPEX) projects within the food manufacturing facility. This role ensures that projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with food safety, quality, and regulatory standards. The engineer collaborates cross-functionally with operations, quality, maintenance, and external vendors to support facility growth, efficiency improvements, and innovation initiatives. Job Responsibilities:Lead end-to-end execution of CAPEX projects, including scope development, budgeting, scheduling, and implementation Develop and manage project budgets, timelines, and resource plans Coordinate with internal stakeholders (operations, QA, maintenance, safety) to define project requirements Manage external contractors, vendors, and equipment suppliers Ensure compliance with food safety standards (e.g., GMP, HACCP), regulatory requirements, and company policies Oversee equipment installation, commissioning, and validation Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies Track and report project performance, including cost control and schedule adherence Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to process efficiency, capacity expansion, and cost reduction Support plant reliability and maintenance strategies through engineering solutions Maintain accurate documentation including drawings, specifications, and SOP updates Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:Strong project management skills, including planning, budgeting, and scheduling Knowledge of food safety standards and regulations (GMP, HACCP, FDA/USDA requirements) Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, P&IDs, and equipment specifications Experience with process design, packaging systems, and/or automation in food manufacturing Familiarity with utilities systems (HVAC, steam, refrigeration, compressed air, water systems) Proficiency in project management tools and software Strong problem-solving and analytical skills Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma principles High attention to detail with a strong focus on safety and compliance Education & Experience:Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, or related field) 3-7+ years of experience in project engineering, preferably in food or consumer goods manufacturing Proven experience managing CAPEX projects in an industrial or manufacturing environment Experience working in regulated environments with food safety or quality requirements Experience with ERP and/or CMMS systems preferred Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification preferred Work Environment: Exposure to both the office setting and food manufacturing facility. Significant amount of time working at a computer station Occasional visits to various areas of the manufacturing floor Must wear required PPE while in all manufacturing areas. Moving parts and machinery are present in the plant. Physical demands: Frequent sitting, standing, or walking. Occasional ability to lift up to 20lbs. Ability to physically perform functions of repetitive motion, grasping, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, crouching, kneeling, stooping, balancing, and climbing. Noise levels will vary, higher noise levels exist while in the plant operations areas.
