With that in mind, we encourage all qualified applicants to apply.Job DescriptionThe Legal Compliance Specialist is responsible for ensuring that all firm operations and activities comply with applicable law and related best practices. This person will work with investment professionals and technology specialists to ensure that all firm contracts and operations comply with relevant law and internal controls. The position requires advanced knowledge of various investment structures, legal negotiations, strong analytical capabilities, and the ability to independently manage complex compliance and operational initiatives.Ensign Peak Advisors is an affiliated organization of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In support of the Church’s global mission, Ensign Peak Advisors manages the financial reserves of the Church and provides cash management services to fund Church operations.ResponsibilitiesReview and comment on various legal documents, including non-disclosure agreements, operation and limited partnership agreements, vendor contracts, and other legal documents used in the finance industry.Work with outside legal counsel to ensure that legal documents comply with internal legal policies and controlsMonitor adherence to regulatory and internal compliance obligations, including portfolio and transactional compliance with applicable law.Partner with internal investment professionals to collect, maintain, and safeguard key documentation and recordsIdentify risks, evaluate control effectiveness, and recommend enhancements to internal legal controls and compliance mattersDevelop and maintain an understanding of a variety of legal structures related to different investment strategies Prepare and deliver clear, accurate, and timely evaluations of legal matters impacting proposed transactions to investment professionalsCollaborate across business units to support compliance initiatives and operational improvementsStay current on regulatory developments and industry best practices through ongoing training and professional engagementQualificationsJuris DoctorStrong understanding of financial markets, investment arrangements, and applicable regulatory requirementsDemonstrated ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and appropriately escalate issuesEffective communication, organizational, and project management skillsAbility to analyze complex business processes and associated technology controlsExperienceMinimum of 3+ years of experience in providing legal services in connection with a variety of investment transactions and regulatory mattersProven experience with compliance frameworks, internal legal controls, and operational risk management practicesPreferred Qualifications:In-house counsel or law firm positions dealing with investment documents and successfully closing transactions in a timely mannerCurrent Bar membership or willingness to take bar examinationEnsign Peak Advisors is an affiliated organization of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
