Note: This position does not require any previous knowledge of, or experience playing, squash.
ABOUT CAPITOL SQUASH
Capitol Squash serves 50 youth from Hartford by providing both rigorous academic and athletic enrichment. Our mission is to empower youth of Hartford to reach their potential as athletes, students, and engaged citizens. Based out of Trinity College, Capitol Squash strives to provide life-changing opportunities through the sport of squash, intensive educational support, mentoring, and community service. Guided by an ‘inch wide, mile deep’ philosophy of youth programming, our team begins working with students in elementary school and engages them in year-round programming through high school and college.
THE ROLE
We are looking for a part-time Bilingual Student & Family Engagement Specialist with a passion for supporting young people and putting them on the path to achieving their goals. This position will be responsible for family outreach with our partner schools, advocacy for families and students, and community collaboration. The Bilingual Student & Family Engagement Specialist will also support the post-secondary and financial aid process by providing Spanish translation of workshops, family meetings, and documents.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for enhancing communication and strengthening the connection between Capitol Squash, home, and school.
Support the post-secondary application and financial aid process through family meetings and individual student sessions.
Regularly communicate with school staff, teachers, and families to determine the best ways we can support a student’s success.
Responsible for monitoring and ensuring safety of a group of students walking from school to Capitol Squash.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be fluent in English and Spanish
Experience working in youth education, teaching, and/or college counseling
Experience working with youth from diverse backgrounds
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and teamwork skills
Reliable, responsible, disciplined, engaged, self-reflective, and open to receiving and giving feedback in order tostrive to improve
HOURS AND BENEFITS
Hours during the school year are 3-5 days during Monday-Friday based on program need from approximately 2:30-6pm. Additional family meetings may fall outside these hours. The Bilingual Student & Family Engagement Specialist is a part-time, non-benefited, grant-funded position through March 31, 2025 and will be evaluated for continuation after the conclusion of the grant.
