Job DescriptionThis OpportunityWSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Overhead Distribution/Transmission Line Project Engineer for our West Region. This is planned to be a hybrid role for our Billings, MT, Portland, OR, Boise, ID, Salt Lake City, UT, Denver, CO, Phoenix, AZ, or San Diego, CA offices. A remote position can be discussed with occasional travel to office locations. We're partnering with clients to shape how energy systems evolve around the world—and we need your helpThis role will provide project guidance and mentorship on 46 kV – 138 kV overhead distribution/transmission projects to our distribution team. We are expanding the capabilities of the distribution team to design low transmission voltages and are seeking a senior engineer to mentor, review, and lead projects as necessary to build this experience. Provide technical leadership and guidance for the planning, design, and delivery of overhead distribution/transmission line projects. Tasks will include research, design, concept development, planning, client interactions and coordination, proposal development, and staff mentorship. Support project development through disciplined engineering practices, coordination across multidisciplinary teams, and adherence to established quality and safety standards. Ensure responsibilities are executed with a level of technical excellence, clarity, and functional performance that meets or exceeds industry expectations.Your Impact The successful candidate will be able to lead, support, and coordinate the following:Project Engineering LeadershipLead and execute the engineering of distribution/transmission projects up to 138kVLead and/or support the initial project execution layout to ensure an efficient and effective project plan has been establishedResponsible for creating and maintaining a project scheduleConduct weekly or bi-weekly project meetings to outline upcoming deliverables and tasks with the responsible personnel identified clearlyCoordinate with internal and external clients on project status and support project meetings as necessaryMaintain project workflow and thorough communication across multi-disciplinary projects, both internal and external to WSPForecast upcoming project requirements to assist in resource planningFacilitate and adhere to WSP’s QA/QC proceduresProvide mentorship on PLS-CADD, structure staking, foundations, assembly drawings, structure loading, material procurement, construction specifications, construction methods, construction estimates, and construction supportLead project teams of varying sizesTravel to client offices or field visits as neededRemain current in latest electrical engineering techniques and practicesExercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Project Manager (PM) SupportSupport the Project Manager with project status reportsWork with PMs to develop scope, schedule, and budget for new projectsWork with PMs to identify out-of-scope items and support work scope variancesProvide weekly or bi-weekly project updates and project forecastingLead and/or support the PM with meetings with clients, both in person and remotelyDevelop client relationships, allowing WSP the opportunity to position ourselves to win future workDepartment SupportSupport resource forecastingMentor junior staff of varying expertise and experienceProvide business improvement methodologies and proceduresSupport staff performance and technical development with department leadershipExercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and proceduresRequired QualificationsWho You Are Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.7 to 10 years of relevant post education experience as an electrical engineer providing design deliverables for projects in transmission and distribution at a utility, industrial, or commercial scale.Engineer license required (multi-state preferred).Understanding of the NESC, RUS, and/or GO-95Highly proficient with power delivery engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues.Strong knowledge of relevant engineering and electrical construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirementsHighly proficient with making technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulationsStrong self-leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with clients, regulators, project managers, and employees at all levels of the organizationWorks independently to provide guidance and leadership to junior to mid-level team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QCStrong understanding of transmission line fundamentals and PLS-CADD operationThe candidate must have a strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnelExperience using the Microsoft Office software suiteProven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies. Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.Preferred QualificationsMaster’s Degree in Engineering.
