Director of Maintenance

Maintenance Operations Manager Direct and manage the district's maintenance operations to ensure that all facilities, grounds, equipment, and building systems are maintained in a safe, efficient, clean, and cost-effective manner that supports student learning and district operations. Provide leadership, supervision, planning, and coordination for maintenance personnel and projects while ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal requirements. Qualifications Bachelor's degree preferred in facilities management, construction management, engineering, business administration, education, or related field Valid Texas driver's license with acceptable driving record Texas Association of School Business Officials (TASBO) certification or ability to obtain preferred Asbestos, AHERA, IPM, or other facilities-related certifications preferred Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of maintenance operations, preventive maintenance programs, and facility management Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and grounds maintenance systems Knowledge of school safety standards, environmental regulations, and applicable building codes Ability to manage budgets, contracts, and capital improvement projects Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills Ability to supervise and evaluate personnel effectively Ability to prioritize multiple projects and respond effectively to emergencies Proficient in work order systems, maintenance software, and basic computer applications Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in maintenance, facilities management, or construction Supervisory experience required Experience in public school operations preferred Major Responsibilities and Duties Facilities and Maintenance Operations Direct and oversee all district maintenance operations, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, locksmith, and general repair services. Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs for district facilities and equipment. Ensure district facilities are maintained in a safe, functional, and attractive condition. Coordinate repairs and maintenance work to minimize disruption to instructional programs. Inspect district facilities regularly and identify maintenance needs and safety concerns. Oversee maintenance response to emergency situations and after-hours facility issues. Maintain accurate maintenance records, schedules, inventories, and work orders. Project Management Assist with planning, coordination, and oversight of construction, renovation, and facility improvement projects. Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, and vendors as needed. Monitor project timelines, budgets, and quality of work. Review and recommend facility improvements and long-range maintenance priorities. Personnel Management Supervise, assign, and evaluate maintenance department personnel. Develop work schedules and assign responsibilities to maximize efficiency and effectiveness. Provide training and professional development opportunities for maintenance staff. Promote high standards of customer service, professionalism, and teamwork. Budget and Purchasing Develop and manage the maintenance department budget. Monitor expenditures and ensure cost-effective use of district resources. Oversee purchasing of maintenance supplies, equipment, and services in accordance with district purchasing procedures. Maintain inventory control procedures for equipment, tools, and supplies. Compliance and Safety Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations related to facilities and maintenance operations. Coordinate district compliance programs related to AHERA, asbestos management, integrated pest management, fire safety, and environmental standards. Assist with emergency preparedness and safety planning. Ensure proper maintenance and inspection of safety systems and equipment. Communication and Community Relations Work collaboratively with campus administrators and department leaders to address facility needs. Respond promptly and professionally to maintenance concerns and requests. Maintain effective communication with staff, vendors, contractors, and community stakeholders. Other Duties Participate in district meetings, committees, and planning activities as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities Supervise and evaluate assigned staff in the maintenance department. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with district policies and applicable laws. Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under pressure; work with frequent interruptions; ability to make sound decisions and exercise professional judgment. Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Frequent district-wide site visits, including facilities, grounds, and transportation areas. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours during peak operational periods. Exposure to outdoor weather conditions and mechanical environments.
