DescriptionPosition OverviewBLOC Resources is seeking an experienced Mechanical Designer - P&ID Developer 2 to support industrial and power generation projects through the development and maintenance of accurate Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).This role is critical in ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant system design by translating complex process and mechanical systems into detailed visual documentation. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, hands-on field experience, and the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering and operations teams.RequirementsKey ResponsibilitiesP&ID Development & DesignCreate, update, and maintain Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) using AutoCAD P&ID or similar design softwareAccurately represent piping systems, equipment layouts, instrumentation, and control loopsDevelop detailed drawings that support engineering design, construction, and operational needsField Walkdowns & As-Built DocumentationPerform field walkdowns at power plants and industrial sites to verify system configurationsCapture real-world conditions and translate them into accurate as-built P&IDsWork in physically demanding environments, including climbing ladders, navigating elevated structures, and accessing confined spaces as neededCollaboration & CoordinationPartner with mechanical, process, and electrical engineers to understand system requirementsCollaborate with project stakeholders to ensure design accuracy and alignment with project goalsSupport cross-functional teams by clearly communicating design changes and updatesDocumentation & ComplianceProduce clear and comprehensive documentation, including symbols, instrument details, and piping layoutsEnsure all P&IDs comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and project specificationsMaintain version control and revision tracking for all design documentsComponent Selection & System SupportAssist engineers in selecting appropriate materials, valves, instruments, and system componentsSupport system design improvements and optimization effortsQuality Assurance & Change ManagementReview and validate P&IDs for accuracy, completeness, and consistencyManage and document design changes, ensuring stakeholders are informed of updatesMaintain high standards of quality and attention to detail across all deliverablesTraining & MentorshipProvide guidance and support to junior designers and draftersShare best practices in P&ID development and documentationRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, or a related field (or equivalent experience)5-10 years of experience in mechanical design with a strong focus on P&ID developmentProficiency with AutoCAD P&ID or similar drafting/design softwareStrong understanding of industrial systems, piping, and instrumentationRequired Skills & CompetenciesTechnical SkillsExpertise in P&ID development, standards, and symbologyStrong knowledge of industrial processes, equipment, and control systemsProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint)Familiarity with document control and revision management processesAnalytical & Problem-SolvingAbility to interpret complex systems and translate them into clear diagramsStrong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and qualityCapable of troubleshooting design discrepancies and inconsistenciesCommunication & CollaborationStrong verbal and written communication skillsAbility to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholdersComfortable presenting design concepts and updatesOrganizational SkillsAbility to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneouslyStrong time management and prioritization skillsSelf-starter with the ability to work independentlyWork EnvironmentCombination of office and field-based workFrequent field walkdowns at power plants and industrial facilitiesRequires physical activity including climbing ladders, working at heights, and navigating industrial environmentsExposure to varying weather and plant conditions
