Login to Apply Child Nutrition SpecialistJOB STATUS: UNTIL FILLED POSTING DATE: 01/07/2026 POSTING NUMBER: 00007438 LOCATION: Child Nutrition POSITION TITLE: Child Nutrition SpecialistJOB DESCRIPTION:Primary Purpose: Under direct Supervision, the Cafeteria Specialist will assist the Child Nutrition manager with daily production and to prepare and serve food of excellent quality for K-12 students and staff. The Cafeteria Specialist is responsible for preparing proper quantities of food to meet USDA requirements, maintain high standards of quality in food preparation, sanitation, and safety practices. The Cafeteria Specialist must promote professional friendly and clean environment.RESPONSIBILITIES:Major Responsibilities and DutiesLearn requirements and practice proper sanitation and safety procedures.Follow standardized recipes to prepare planned menu and to eliminate waste.Assume responsibility for records of production amounts.Must be able and willing to run the POS system including ala carte items and recognizing reimbursable meals.Help manager in preparing and receiving grocery orders, storage, and care of food items and supplies.Assist in controlling food and labor costs to avoid waste.Must be available to work after regular hours as needed for special events and emergencies.Meet all scheduled mealtimes and serves the food as per departmental policies and procedures.Maintain sanitary conditions.Aid in training employees.Work cooperatively with other kitchen employees.Follow posted work schedules.Complete records accurately.Dress in a professional manner.Correct unsafe conditions that may exist in the work area that could cause an accident or cross-contamination. Any conditions that are not correctable by you are to be reported to the supervisor immediately.Know and practice the proper safety procedures in operating machinery and equipment as required for the job.Know and practice safety techniques in lifting, climbing, and performing other job duties.Attendance at work is an essential function.Other duties assigned by the supervisor or designee.EXPERIENCE:Minimum Experience:* Experience in food preparation and servingQUALIFICATIONS:Minimum Education/Certification:High school diploma or G.E.D. preferredExperience in Food Service preferredCurrent Texas Food Handler's certification (ability to obtain within 10 days of employment)Eligible for coverage under the district's vehicle insurance programSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Ability to read and understand instructions for food preparation and safety procedures as writtenAbility to read and follow recipes as writtenAbility to perform simple math calculations and knowledge of inventory par levelAbility to work with students and staff cooperativelyAbility to secure reliable transportation to various work locationsCapable of recording production amounts and understanding primero softwareCreativity in food presentation and batch cookingKnowledge of receiving grocery orders, HACCP, and quality controlOTHER INFORMATION:Equipment Used:Large and small kitchen equipment to include electric slicer, mixer, pressure steamer, deep-fat fryer, vegetable cutters, sharp cutting tools, ovens, dishwashers, food/utility cards, and ladders.Working ConditionsMental/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over), pushing (intermittent), reaching above shoulders, use of fingers, walking (intermittent), standing (3-5 hours per day), kneeling (intermittent), repeated bending (intermittent), climbing (intermittent), specific visual requirements (reading product labels, directions/equipment operation), specific hearing requirement (oral and telephone conversations), specific visual requirements (using computer and reading small print).Excessive heat, cold, and humidity; excessive dampness or chilling; excessive noise (intermittent); fumes; solvents; works around machinery with moving parts; works on ladders or scaffolding; works with hands in water.JOB CONTACT INFORMATION:APPLY TO:The above statements are intended to describe the general purpose and responsibilities assigned to this job and are not intended to represent an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required.GROUP / GRADE: Wage/Hour Status: Hourly; Reports To: Director, Child Nutrition; Date Revised: February 2023 SALARY: Pay Grade: 2 DAYS: 180
