Fulani Interpreter (Phone) – Work from HomePosition : Fulani Interpreter – Phone Interpreter (Independent Contractor) Location : Remote (Work from Home) – United States Pay : $0.70 – $0.85 per minute Employment Status : Independent Contractor (no employee benefits) Position OverviewThe Fulani Telephone Interpreter is responsible for handling calls on demand and rendering the meaning of conversations between Fulani and English speakers across a wide range of industries, including healthcare, government, insurance, finance, utilities, travel & hospitality, general business, law enforcement, court, and 911. The interpreter ensures correct and culturally appropriate communication, maintains a professional and courteous demeanor at all times, and follows client instructions and industry protocols. Essential Job FunctionsRespond to interpreting sessions promptly and conduct interpretation in a friendly and professional manner. Render correct concepts and meanings according to established interpretation protocol, avoiding omissions or additions. Speak clearly in both languages with proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions. Maintain professional demeanor throughout all sessions, including in emergency situations such as 911 calls. Stay punctual and available during agreed work hours. Avoid interaction with the LEP without client permission. Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and respect for diverse backgrounds. Maintain confidentiality and neutrality during sensitive or emotional subjects such as end‑of‑life discussions, pregnancy termination, vaccinations, and matters concerning sexual orientation and gender expression. Adapt to new technology and updates on the LanguageLine platform. Remain on calls for extended periods as required by call volume or nature of the call. QualificationsFluency in Fulani and English with a strong understanding of cultural dynamics. Excellent listening, retention, and note‑taking skills for high accuracy. Ability to concentrate, remain neutral, and handle sensitive, emotionally charged conversations. Education or experience in language‑related fields (teaching, assessment, translation, or interpretation) is preferred. Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Legally authorized to work in the United States and must be at least 18 years old. Proficiency in reading and writing the languages is highly preferred. Technical RequirementsDedicated personal device for business purposes (desktop, laptop, tablet, or smartphone). Compatible operating systems: Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, iPadOS, or Android. High‑speed internet connection: minimum download 5Mbps, upload 3Mbps, ping ≤ 300ms, jitter ≤ 30ms. Quiet, secure workspace free of background noise. Physical RequirementsOperate keyboard and mouse with sufficient manual dexterity. Remain in a stationary position in front of a computer for the majority of the workday. Lift up to 26lbs as needed.
