Camp Counselor - Summer Camp 2026

SALARY RANGE$19.18 - $22.00 per hourGENERAL DESCRIPTIONSummer Camp at the JCCSF offers one-week to three-week sessions in both the traditional day camp and specialty camp settings for campers in grades K-10. Summer Camp is in session June 1 - August 21. Our classic day camps feature arts & crafts, STEAM projects, and sports. Specialty camps include visual arts, nature exploration, musical theater, science and more.As a camp counselor, you'll be helping children create lifelong memories. At the same time, you'll build your leadership skills, boost your resume and have a blast!RESPONSIBILITIESBe the primary role model for a group of campers, grades K through 8Create a safe, supportive environment for campersPlan, organize and supervise fun and age-appropriate activitiesHelp lead lesson plans and support indoor and outdoor programmingSet clear, consistent limits and resolve behavioral challenges with help from supervisorsTake on additional responsibilities as requiredREQUIREMENTSMust be at least 16 with a valid work permitWilling to commit to ten weeks of camp plus our Staff Training Week (Applicants who can commit to the greatest number of weeks will be prioritized)A team playerExperienced working with children ages 5 through 13, preferably in a camp settingWarm, open and able to respond sensitively to diverse groups of childrenInterested in creating, planning and facilitating group activitiesAppropriately silly and imaginative at playAdept at juggling attention to one camper while supervising large groupsEnthusiastic, flexible and able to improvise (a must)Be prepared to participate in swim-based activities with campers in 3-5 feet of water in appropriate swim attireWORKING CONDITIONSWill be working directly with and mainly responsible for youth aged 5-13. Camps take place in a variety of locations both indoors (classrooms, basketball gym, art studio, catering kitchen) and outdoors (field trips, sports field, playgrounds). Locations are dependent on which camp type the counselors are assigned.
