Job Summary
The Server is the primary guide through the Square Roots experience. This role combines fine dining technique, menu knowledge, beverage confidence, emotional intelligence, and precise pacing. Servers are responsible for creating a seamless guest experience while embodying Prévenance at every table.
The ideal candidate can tell the story of the food, wine, cocktails, nonprofit mission, and service philosophy without making the experience feel rehearsed or overexplained.
Core Responsibilities
Lead guests through the menu with confidence, accuracy, and warmth.
Describe Southern-Creole inspiration, ingredients, preparation methods, and beverage pairings.
Maintain strong knowledge of allergens, dietary restrictions, and menu modifications.
Coordinate pacing with the kitchen, bar, host, wait assist, and management.
Execute proper steps of service from greeting through farewell.
Use guest cues to adjust tone, pace, detail, and level of interaction.
Sell with integrity by matching recommendations to the guest’s experience.
Maintain polished table presence, including marking, clearing, resetting, crumb management, and beverage awareness.
Support wine, Madeira, Port, cocktail, and non-alcoholic beverage service.
Accurately enter orders and communicate special requests.
Resolve guest concerns quickly and involve management when appropriate.
Model refined service habits for youth trainees and newer staff.
Fine Dining Standards
Knows every dish, key ingredient, sauce, garnish, and intended pairing.
Never auctions food when avoidable.
Marks the table before food arrives.
Keeps water, wine, cocktails, silverware, napkins, and table maintenance ahead of the guest.
Reads the table before speaking.
Maintains a polished tone, posture, and pace.
Treats every guest as important without creating stiffness or intimidation.
Makes service feel effortless, not performative.
Qualifications
Prior serving experience required; fine dining or upscale dining experience strongly preferred.
Strong food, wine, cocktail, and service knowledge or willingness to study consistently.
Ability to carry trays, stand for extended periods, and work high-volume dinner service.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Comfortable working in a mission-driven environment with youth trainees.
Professional appearance and composure required.

Pay: $18.00 - $40.00 per hour
