Field Chemist
Job Summary
This position will support operations for ACTEnviro by conducting environmental services and collections while observing safety protocols (proACTive).
Accountabilities
Understand Federal/State EPA requirements for hazardous waste disposal.
Ship waste according to DOT requirements.
Understand and manage chemicals base on physical and chemical properties for proper disposal.
Responsible for proper packaging of hazardous waste to maximize efficiency and maintain compliance
Inventory chemicals for proper disposal or for HMBP.
Perform inspections of staging, accumulating and storage areas to ensure proper housekeeping procedures and compliance in regard to 40CFR
Oversee the Inspections of storage areas for leaks or spills
Inspect drums for compliance with labeling regulations
Collect, segregate, and properly package waste chemicals for disposal to maximize efficiency, maintain compliance, and safety.
Sampling and profiling of new waste streams or any wastes needing analytical testing
Prepare all necessary tracking paperwork
Utilize waste management software to efficiently and accurately manage waste program
Assign proper waste codes to all materials that are designated for disposal
Maintain and manage waste profile data
Provide waste tracking reports as needed
Prepare computer-generated packing lists, labels, manifests, and land disposal restriction notifications
Identify unknown laboratory chemicals when they are encountered
Perform other assignments as assigned by management
Availability to work weekends and extended hours as needed
Knowledge, Skills and Ability
Knowledge of the hazardous waste industry with EPA, DOT, and applicable state and local regulations a plus
Ability to lift 50 pounds
Ability to work efficiently and effectively
Maintain a clean and organized workspace
PC Skills
Ability to pass a pre-employment background screen, physical, and drug-screen
Education/Experience
Have or willing to obtain a Class B/C License (clean driving record in the last 3 years)
High school education or equivalent
Experience in the hazardous materials/waste industry preferred
Successfully completed HAZWOPER 40 hour (must have copies if certified)
