Heavy Equipment Truck DriverSMS Mill Services, LLC is a leader in the steel mill services industry prioritizing recycling and environmental/worker' safety and handling all operations with integrity. SMS Jackson is seeking a highly skilled, SAFETY FOCUSED and dependable Heavy Equipment Truck Driver. This role is responsible for operating on-site haul trucks and other heavy mobile equipment to transport scrap metal, raw materials, and production materials throughout the facility safely and efficiently.The ideal candidate has experience driving heavy industrial trucks, understands active yard environments, and can work safely around loaders, cranes, rail cars, and other equipment.SMS provides a comprehensive range of services for steel mill customers. We partner with our customers to design custom, cost-effective solutions, which focus on adding value and achieving goals for the operation and the environment. Our range of services includes, but is not limited scrap yard management, finished or semi-finished product services, melt shop services, logistics/transportation support, and slag processing.Key Responsibilities:Operate haul trucks, dump trucks, roll-off trucks, water trucks, or other heavy industrial vehicles on-siteTransport scrap metal, slag, raw materials, and other loads between designated plant or yard locationsPerform pre-shift inspections and complete daily equipment checklistsSafely load, haul, dump, and maneuver equipment in congested industrial areasMaintain awareness of pedestrians, heavy equipment, rail traffic, and changing site conditionsCommunicate with dispatch, supervisors, scale house, and equipment operators regarding material movement needsFollow designated traffic routes, speed limits, and site rulesReport mechanical issues, unsafe conditions, or incidents immediatelyAssist with general yard work or equipment support tasks when neededSafety ResponsibilitiesFollow all company safety policies, PPE requirements, and site rulesMaintain awareness of pedestrians, truck traffic, rail activity, and surrounding equipmentOperate equipment responsibly in tight spaces and active industrial areasParticipate in safety meetings and training programsQualificationsHigh school diploma or GED preferredPrevious heavy equipment operating experience requiredExperience in scrap recycling, steel mill, demolition, construction, or industrial settings preferredAbility to operate multiple types of equipment is a plusStrong hand-eye coordination and awareness of surroundingsDependable attendance and punctuality requiredPhysical / Work ConditionsAbility to work in an industrial steel mill scrap yard environmentExposure to noise, weather changes, dust, and moving equipmentAbility to climb equipment ladders, sit for extended periods, and perform physical tasks as neededWhat we can Offer:Stable full-time opportunityCompetitive pay and benefitsOvertime opportunitiesTeam-oriented workplaceGrowth opportunities within operationsSMS Mill Services, LLC is an equal opportunity employer that is committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
