JOB DESCRIPTION
Primary Purpose: To provide safe and efficient transportation for students.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Provide safe transportation of students.
Obey traffic laws.
Observe mandatory bus safety regulations.
Maintain discipline when students are on the bus.
Report students' disciplinary problems to the proper authority.
Adhere to the regular route schedule and stops assigned.
Check bus, before each operation, for mechanical defects.
Notify the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
Discharge students only at authorized stops.
Report all accidents and complete required reports.
Attend in-service training programs as requested.
Correct unsafe conditions that may exist in the work area that could cause an accident. Any conditions that are not correctable by you are to be reported to the supervisor immediately.
Know and practice the proper safety procedures in operating machinery and equipment as required for the job.
Know and practice safety techniques in lifting, climbing, and performing other job duties.
Attendance at work is an essential function.
Other duties as assigned by the supervisor or designee.
EXPERIENCE: QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Certification:
High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred
Valid Texas driver's license (CDL)
Successful completion of bus driver's certification program
Eligible for coverage under the district vehicle insurance program
Certification of good health as required by the State of Texas signed by a licensed physician
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to read and understand instructions for transportation and safety procedures
OTHER INFORMATION
Working Conditions: Mental/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over), pushing, reaching above shoulders, use of fingers, walking (2 hours per day), standing (2 hours per day), operation of motor vehicle, specific visual requirements (driving, depth perception, ability to distinguish basic colors), specific hearing requirements (driving, oral and phone conversations). Outside and inside, excessive heat and cold, excessive humidity, excessive dampness or chilling, excessive noise (intermittent), constant noise; dust, fumes, smoke, or gases; unusual fatigue factors (long hours of driving, trips), protracted or irregular hours of work.
