Forward Deployed AI EngineerWashington, DC | Onsite | $150K–$250K + equityWe’re hiring Forward Deployed AI Engineers for an early-stage GovTech company building agentic AI to detect fraud, waste, and abuse across U.S. government spending.The company has already identified $200M+ in previously unidentified fraud and is working with stakeholders across Medicare/Medicaid, federal agencies, and state and local governments.This is a hands-on, high-ownership role for engineers who want to build production AI systems and work directly with the people using them.What you’ll doBuild and ship production-grade agentic AI systemsWork with RAG, tool-calling agents, multi-agent workflows, context management, evals, and ML infrastructureOwn systems end to end — from architecture and experimentation through deployment, reliability, and iterationWork directly with government partners to understand real operational problems and turn them into technical solutionsBuild data and evaluation pipelines that help models improve over timeCommunicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholdersWhat we’re looking for1–4 years of production engineering experienceStrong PythonHands-on experience building LLM / agentic systemsReal ownership of software shipped into productionExperience with RAG, agents, data pipelines, ML infrastructure, or model evaluationStrong technical fundamentals — not just AI toolingExcellent communication skillsComfortable working directly with government stakeholdersDC-based or willing to relocateU.S. citizenship strongly preferredStrong plusActive Secret / Top Secret clearanceGovernment, defense, intelligence, or public-sector experienceCMS, Medicare/Medicaid, or fraud-detection experienceStartup, founding-engineer, or zero-to-one experienceFine-tuning, evals, RL, or simulation experienceThere are opportunities across both civilian agencies and national-security work, including a team where eligible engineers can be sponsored for Top Secret clearance.
