Cannabis Company Accountant

Overview We are seeking a highly skilled Cannabis Company Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in corporate and governmental accounting, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance within the cannabis industry. The successful applicant will demonstrate proficiency in various accounting software and possess a solid understanding of GAAP, financial analysis, and internal controls. Duties Prepare and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP and industry standards Manage general ledger accounting, including journal entries, account reconciliation, and balance sheet reconciliation Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes ensuring timely payments and collections Conduct bank reconciliations and cash flow analysis to monitor liquidity positions Ensure compliance with regulatory reporting requirements specific to the cannabis industry Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities Support internal and external audits through detailed documentation and audit trail maintenance Maintain accurate records using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, PeopleSoft, or similar platforms Prepare tax-related documentation leveraging experience in tax compliance and regulations such as securities law or estate law as applicable Collaborate with cross-functional teams on financial management projects including cost analysis and financial report writing Mentor junior staff members on accounting best practices and technical accounting principles Requirements Proven experience in corporate accounting with a focus on financial statement preparation and analysis Strong knowledge of GAAP, accrual accounting, double entry bookkeeping, debits & credits, and financial concepts Familiarity with SOX compliance, LIHTC programs, and governmental accounting standards is preferred Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, PeopleSoft, or equivalent systems Experience with regulatory reporting within the cannabis or related regulated industries is highly desirable Solid understanding of financial management principles including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow analysis, and account reconciliation Ability to interpret complex financial reports accurately and communicate findings effectively Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in account analysis and journal entries Strong analytical skills complemented by experience in auditing, financial services, or private equity environments is advantageous Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA certification is a plus This position offers a dynamic work environment where your expertise will directly impact our company's growth trajectory.
