OverviewDepartment: Office of Medical Education (OME), Office of Research Education (ORE)Job Title: Open Rank-Instructor, Sr. Instructor, Assistant, Associate, ProfessorWorking Title: Associate Director for Clinical EducationPosition #: 00845979Requisition #: 39266FTE: 0.20Work Location: Onsite – Aurora, COJob SummaryThe Associate Director will ensure that stakeholders understand and support the coordination and expectations unique to the Physician Scientist training and career pathway and facilitate students\' progress to successful academic research careers. The role includes leadership on the MSTP (MD/PhD) program, participation on the MSTP Executive Committee and related School of Medicine and Graduate School committees, policy understanding and revision as appropriate, curriculum integration across the MSTP training program, and involvement in MSTP events, student advising, and counseling. Responsibilities include running the MSTP Foundations of Doctoring preceptorship course, the Capstone Clinical Re-Entry course, and the Trailhead/Electives Return-to-Clinics courses. Collaboration with the MSTP Director and administrative team is required to support training transitions and program vision.All MSTP leadership serves as key advisors to MSTP students, coaching and facilitating excellence in clinical and research achievement, with emphasis on supporting students to match into top research-oriented residency programs.SupervisionSupervision Received: Reports directly to the MSTP Program Director within ORE with a dotted line to the Vice Executive Dean of Medical Education.Supervision Exercised: NoneKey Responsibilities25% MSTP Leadership and Administration:Attend MSTP Executive Committee meetings as a voting member and bring topics related to MSTP medical education for policy development.Attend MSTP Leadership meetings; draft policy proposals and updates for Executive Committee consideration; report on student progress.Meet 1:1 monthly with the MSTP Program Director to review progress on key initiatives.Represent MSTP on the School of Medicine Curriculum Steering Committee and relay program outcomes and policies.Maintain knowledge of MSTP medical-phase policies and serve as a primary source for policy questions from students, faculty, and staff.Develop and revise plans for medical phase training and transitions for the MSTP handbook.Participate in Admissions and Recruitment functions, interview applicants, and engage in recruitment activities.Attend key MSTP events annually as a representative of MSTP Leadership.Contribute to grant applications (e.g., T32, R13) and provide materials for MD curriculum courses.Attend MSTP-related conferences and meetings on behalf of the program annually as appropriate.25% Academic Advising and Progress Support:Serve on MSTP thesis committees and support progression with regular advisory sessions.Prepare and submit MSTP letters of recommendation for F30/F31 applications as assigned.Oversee transitions of MSTP students between Trek, graduate studies, and clinical MD training during flexible re-entry, coordinating steps ahead of planned returns.Monitor academic progress during clinical education; lead advisory sessions on milestones and residency planning.Participate in meetings with students ahead of residency applications to support PSTP and research-intensive residencies; prepare MSTP supplemental letters for ERAS/MSPE in collaboration with leadership.Participate in MSTP Seminars and related courses as appropriate.25% Course Direction:Serve as course director for MSTP Foundations of Doctoring, MSTP Clinical Capstone, and MSTP Trailhead/Return-to-Clinics Electives.Oversee scheduling, grading/feedback, and recruitment of faculty; annually revise course syllabi to clarify requirements, outcomes, and rubrics.Partner with MSTP Administration to track student performance and finalize grades with the registrar.25% Program Representation:Act as primary program liaison to School of Medicine and Medical School leadership; advocate for MSTP within the MD curriculum context.Oversee recruitment of MSTP Foundations of Doctoring preceptors and identify potential new MSTP faculty.Advise on medical school policies and MSTP alignment; attend monthly MD Curriculum Steering Committee as an MSTP representative.QualificationsMinimum Qualifications: Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
