What You Will Do at ProsperUs As a Loan Officer, you will serve as a trusted relationship manager and capital advisor for entrepreneurs accessing financing through ProsperUs Detroit. You will be responsible for both originating new capital opportunities and stewarding ongoing borrower relationships throughout the life of each loan. This role blends relationship-building, underwriting, project management, and borrower support. You will guide prospective borrowers through the lending process from initial conversation through approval, closing, and disbursement. Once capital is deployed, you will remain the primary relationship holder for your portfolio, ensuring borrowers receive responsive communication, business services support, and annual portfolio reviews that help sustain long-term success. Working closely with the Community Capital Director, Capital Team colleagues, Business & Alumni Services staff, and the Financial Wellness Coach, you will help ensure entrepreneurs receive holistic support that strengthens both their business finances and personal financial wellness. Core Job Responsibilities Capital Origination & New Deal Development You will... Build relationships with entrepreneurs, internal stakeholders, referral partners, and ecosystem collaborators to generate qualified financing opportunities aligned with ProsperUs’ mission. Guide prospective borrowers through the application and underwriting process with empathy, clarity, and accountability. Collect, review, and organize required documentation, including financial statements, tax returns, ownership information, business plans, and other underwriting materials. Analyze borrower readiness, repayment capacity, and financing needs using sound credit judgment and trust-based financing practices. Prepare thoughtful and timely loan presentations for the ProsperUs Loan Committee’s consideration. Present loan opportunities to the Loan Committee and respond to questions regarding structure, risk, and entrepreneur readiness. Support borrowers in understanding approval terms, next steps, and timelines following committee decisions. Closing, Disbursement & Loan Logistics You will... Lead post-approval processes including commitment letters, condition tracking, document collection, and coordination toward closing. Conduct loan closings professionally and accurately while ensuring borrowers understand their obligations and available supports. Coordinate timely loan disbursements in partnership with internal operations staff and borrowers. Maintain close communication with borrowers to receive, review, and process disbursement requests for approved loans. Ensure all closing files, compliance documentation, and internal records are complete and accurate. Help remove unnecessary barriers that delay access to capital while maintaining prudent controls. Borrower Relationship Management & Portfolio Stewardship You will... Serve as the primary relationship holder for assigned borrowers throughout the life of their loans and beyond. Maintain regular communication with borrowers to understand progress, challenges, and opportunities for additional support. Coordinate business services, coaching, referrals, and technical assistance that strengthen borrower success and repayment readiness. Conduct annual portfolio reviews to ensure borrower files remain current, including the collection of tax returns, insurance documentation, financial statements, and other required records. Identify early warning signs of borrower distress and partner internally to provide proactive support solutions. Maintain accurate portfolio notes, relationship updates, and borrower activity in Salesforce and other systems. Integrated Entrepreneur Support You will... Provide borrowers with business financial coaching related to budgeting, cash flow, profitability, growth planning, and responsible use of capital. Partner closely with the Financial Wellness Coach so borrowers also have access to personal financial literacy tools, credit-building resources, and healthy financial practices. Collaborate with internal teams to ensure borrower support is coordinated, warm, and effective rather than fragmented. Contribute to a borrower experience rooted in dignity, trust, and practical problem-solving. Some Other Activities You Will Do to Support ProsperUs You will... Represent ProsperUs within entrepreneurship and community development networks as appropriate. Support reporting, data integrity, and internal metrics related to capital deployment and borrower outcomes. Identify opportunities to improve lending workflows, borrower experience, and portfolio health. Continue deepening knowledge of equitable entrepreneurship, community finance, and racial equity. Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities While demonstrating a energy and passion for ProsperUs’, including our clients, partners, mission, and values, you are also able to do or know the following: You have experience in lending, underwriting, banking, portfolio management, financial coaching, or related capital access work. You build trust easily and know how to maintain strong long-term relationships with entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds. You can balance compassion and accountability while guiding borrowers through complex processes. You understand business financial statements, tax returns, cash flow, and credit considerations. You are highly organized and can manage multiple deals, deadlines, and borrower relationships simultaneously. You communicate clearly, proactively, and professionally in writing and verbally. You are comfortable learning and using systems such as Salesforce and other lending or project management platforms. You are proactive, solution-oriented, and able to navigate challenges with good judgment. Minimum Qualifications ProsperUs is looking for candidates who have the following qualities and experiences: At least two years of experience in commercial lending, microlending, underwriting, portfolio management, financial coaching, banking, entrepreneurship support, or related fields. Ideally, an emphasis on understanding businesses and entrepreneurs who encounter challenges related to systemic and institutional inequity is important. Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics, community development, or a related field is helpful but not required. Experience reviewing business financial information and guiding clients through financing processes. Strong project management and relationship management skills. Experience with CRM or lending software; Salesforce experience is a plus. Flexibility in days and hours available for scheduled work, including regular evening engagements and occasional weekend commitments. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English. Ability to communicate in Spanish, Arabic, French, or Bangla is a plus.
