Horton, Inc. is currently looking for an Assistant Controller for their Accounting Department. The right candidate will under the direction of the Division Controller, assist in managing all aspects of the division's historical reporting, anticipatory budgeting and financial projections. Act as the conscience of the division which, among other things, involves fiduciary responsibilities, business process improvement and challenging the thinking/decisions of the entire management team.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPrepare House Profit Analyses and review gross profit margins for each sales contractReview job costs for budget variances, cost code errors, and other posting errors on invoices and resolve with proper departmentsConduct monthly close procedures and ensure that deadlines are met, including preparing journal entries and accrualsPost bank deposits and create related cash receipt journalsProcess timely payment of property taxes and monthly amortizationMonitor fixed asset purchases and ensure timely capitalization and depreciation of assetsResponsible for various weekly, monthly, and ad hoc analyses and reports for management teamOversee Due Diligence Reconciliation and review quarterly and monthly project budgetsConducts all business in a professional and ethical manner to serve customers and increase the goodwill and profit of the companyAssist vendors with any questions as neededAdditional duties as assignedRegular and reliable attendanceSupervisory ResponsibilitiesDirectly supervises 2 or more employees in the Accounting Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.QualificationsEducation and/or ExperienceBachelor's degree (B. A.) in Accounting from a four-year college or university; or 4 to 6 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Excellent analytical skillsAbility to accurately and efficiently process and record large volumes of dataStrong verbal, written and interpersonal skills; ability to work well with all levels of personnelAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral form or via DRH applicationsProficiency with MS Office (Excel and Outlook)Ability to sit for majority of 8-hour workdayThe noise level is generally moderateCPA (Preferred)Come join a winning team with a Fortune 500 company!
