Return to Careers Division/DepartmentFinancial AidReports toDirector for Financial AidPosition TypeFull-TimeJob SummaryThe Financial Aid Counselor, under the direction of the Director of Financial Aid, is responsible for interpreting federal, state, and institutional financial assistance rules, policies and procedures. The counselor will conduct a wide range of activities necessary for insuring that students meet all eligibility requirements for awarding all federal, state, and institutional aid.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesReview eligibility of student aid applicants and conduct application verificationAward financial aid to eligible students, per federal, state and institutional guidelinesProvide quality customer service to students, their parents, and university personnelCommunicate with students and parents in person, by telephone and emailGenerate award letters and other correspondenceAssist in the university's recruitment and retention efforts through campus outreach, high school visitation, college fairs and alumni activitiesServe as a liaison between financial aid and other campus offices regarding financial aid administration and processingPromote a positive image of the Financial Aid Office by making group presentations which explains both the various financial aid programs and associated application processes.Assists in the preparation of required statistical reports by collecting data and keeping accurate records on programs administered by the Financial Aid Office and by designing and revising forms as appropriate.Default ManagementReconciliationOther duties as assigned by the DirectorRequired Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesStrong oral and written communication skillsProficiency in Microsoft excel, word processing and other computer related skillsHigh level of customer service skills and interpersonal skillsAbility to multi-task in fast paced situationsHigh level of accuracy and attention to detailMinimum QualificationsProficiency in using the BANNER System, a plusA minimum of 3 years of financial aid administration experience required.Note: Documents must be saved in .pdf format with your name and job title in the document name.
