The teacher fosters musical understanding, creativity, performance skills, and appreciation of music while supporting student development in alignment with Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) and division curriculum.Minimum QualificationsMust hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in Music Education (PreK 12 or applicable elementary endorsement)Demonstrated knowledge of music theory, vocal and/or instrumental instruction, and music pedagogyStrong communication, organization, and classroom management skillsAbility to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learnersProficiency in instructional technology and music-related tools and resourcesAbility to collaborate effectively with students, staff, and familiesEssential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPlan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned music instruction to elementary studentsDevelop lesson plans that incorporate vocal music, rhythm, movement, instruments, music theory, and music appreciationTeach foundational music concepts including rhythm, pitch, melody, harmony, tempo, and dynamicsInstruct students in singing, listening, performing, and responding to musicIntroduce students to a variety of musical styles, cultures, and historical influencesDifferentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners, including students with disabilities and English learnersAssess student progress through observation, participation, performance tasks, and other appropriate methodsMaintain accurate and complete student records and documentation as required by division and state guidelinesCreate and maintain a classroom environment that promotes active participation, respect, and student engagementEstablish and enforce clear expectations for student behavior and classroom proceduresMaintain, organize, and properly care for musical instruments, equipment, and instructional materialsEnsure safe and appropriate use of instruments and classroom resourcesIntegrate technology into instruction when appropriate to enhance learning experiencesCollaborate with classroom teachers to support cross-curricular connectionsPrepare students for school performances, programs, and events such as concerts and assembliesCommunicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress and classroom activitiesParticipate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school improvement activitiesServe as a positive role model for students and demonstrate professional and respectful behavior at all timesMaintain confidentiality in accordance with applicable laws and school division policiesPerform other duties as assigned by the principal or designeePhysical RequirementsAbility to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and reach frequentlyAbility to lift and carry instruments and materials up to approximately 25 poundsManual dexterity to demonstrate instruments and musical techniquesAbility to communicate clearly and supervise students during active and performance-based instructionWorking Conditions / EnvironmentWork performed primarily in a classroom/music room settingFrequent interaction with students, staff, and familiesAbility to multitask, adapt to changing instructional needs, and manage group activitiesMay require occasional evening or after-school activities such as concerts, performances, or open house eventsEvaluationPerformance will be evaluated in accordance with School Board policy and administrative regulations governing personnel evaluation.Equal Employment Opportunity StatementThe Charles City County School Board is an equal opportunity employer.
