We channel inspiration from art on view, while authentically connecting with colleagues, campers, and families.DeCordova runs two camps each summer: The Hive and Summer Studio for Teens. Both experiences are process/maker focused and inspired by the 30-acre Sculpture Park, nature on campus, and each participant’s imagination.THE HIVE, July 8-August 9, is designed for campers ages 5-12 who are curious about the world around them and interested in exploring nature and contemporary artistic ideas through energizing and emergent collaborations. The goal for each uniquely themed week is to design and construct large-scale installations in the Sculpture Park.SUMMER STUDIO FOR TEENS, July 1-3 and August 12-16, offers opportunities for 13-16 year olds to refine and expand artistic techniques, create meaningful connections, and develop confidence in their unique artistic voice. Someone who is creative, passionate, open-minded, and knowledgeable in a broad range of behavioral, social, and developmental needs of campers and their families. Someone who has a deep toolbox of strategies to best accommodate campers, collaborate with families, and advise staff. Someone who is genuinely curious, flexible, generous, kind, and patient with campers, colleagues, and families. Someone who is adept at reading IEP’s and providing insight and direction to instructors to best support campers. Someone who takes fastidious notes and is able to effectively document and share observations and suggestions. A Day In The Life: The Hive day runs from 9:30AM–3:30PM and Summer Studio runs from 11:30AM-4:30PM. The Camp Behavior Specialist will be present for Monday drop off, connect with families, float through groups, and observe lunch interactions. Wednesdays, they will observe lunch interactions, touch base with Instructors and camp administrators, and participate in the weekly end of day staff meeting. Fridays they will support campers and staff as necessary while the camper installation is constructed in the Park.Position Summary The deCordova Camp Behavior Specialist reports to the deCordova Camp Director who works in partnership with the regional Education Manager. They must have a deep understanding of behavioral modification and child development. They will value collaborative, interdisciplinary, place-based education and the intersections of art, nature, and science.Prior to camp, the Camp Behavior Specialist will review camper profiles, plan and facilitate a two-hour training for the deCordova Camp Team. During The Hive (July 8-August 9), they will be onsite 4-5 hours/day on Monday/Wednesday/Friday and on-call Tuesday and Thursday for remote consults or specific requests to be onsite. During Summer Studio (July 1-3 and August 12-16), they will be onsite 2-3 hours/day on Monday and Wednesday and on-call Tuesday and Thursday for remote consults or specific requests to be onsite. Total hours per is estimated at 15.QualificationsEssential Functions: Ensure proper completion and documentation of administrative duties as they relate to camper accommodations and modifications Take lead in coordinating and implementing strategy plans for campers who would benefit from accommodations and modifications Lead a staff training as it relates to understanding and supporting campers with a range of needs Support Instructors and Junior Instructors during camp with camper accommodations and modifications In partnership with other camp staff, communicate with camper grownups as necessary Qualifications: Obtained a Master’s degree or equivalent experience in social work, education, child development, or other relevant course of study Proven expertise in the areas of trauma-informed practices, neurodiversity, behavior modification, and special education Experience working with children with diverse needs, abilities, and interests Effective communicator and strong interpersonal skills: helpful, calm, friendly demeanor Ability to prioritize and to work both collaboratively and independently Experience in collaborative, interdisciplinary, place-based education is preferred Strong organizational abilities with extreme attention to detail The ideal candidate will have an interest in the intersections of art, nature, and science Other Requirements: A satisfactory criminal background check (CORI and SORI) Able and willing to work across a 30-acre site both indoors and outside in all types of weather Must be able to lift 25 pounds Please upload a resume summarizing your education and work history and a cover letter telling us about your interest in working with children in the context of this position.About The Trustees The Trustees is one of Massachusetts’ largest non-profits and the nation’s first conservation and preservation organization.
