Learning Resources Specialist (Part-Time)

The role of the part-time Learning Resources Specialist is to provide excellent customer services associated with circulation, reserves, serials, interlibrary loans, and with reference services when necessary. This position will assist patrons with circulation and basic reference services; and to perform clerical and technical duties as assigned.The part-time Learning Resources Specialist receives supervision from the Director, Learning Commons.Provide services associated with the circulation desk which includes, welcoming patrons in a friendly manner, checking in/out library materials, issuing library cards and entering patron information in user database, assisting patrons in operating library equipment, and requesting payment of overdue fines.Perform general clerical work; type and enter information into computer; maintain files and records; answer and route telephone calls.Participate in the opening and closing of the library, when needed.Help with the collection of monies (i.e., library fines and fees) by typing and emailing overdue letters.Assist in organization and access to reserve materials for faculty.Assist with serial management in the automated library environment.Assist with organization of periodicals collections, including shelving current and back issues.Assist in processing interlibrary loans specified in interlibrary loan procedures established by the North Carolina Community College System.Assist library users in access and locating information through the public access catalog and computer databases, including the Internet.Assist with stack maintenance by performing shelf reading and organizing materials.Maintain a high standard of professional and ethical practice in representing the College.Must be able to report promptly to work and deal with the public in a calm and courteous manner.Adhere to the college's policies, library procedures, and other established guidelines.Assist with orientation sessions by providing library tour highlighting materials and services.Provide assistance with the Dare testing center, as needed, and with connecting students to tutoring resources.Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.Required:An associate's degree from a regionally accredited college.Proficient in using a computer and email.Familiar with Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.Preferred:Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college.One year of experience in an office environment.Library experience.Knowledge of:Modern office procedures, methods, and computer equipment.Principles and procedures of record keeping.English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.Basic math.Physical Requirements:* Must be able to lift 30 lbs.* Occasional stooping, kneeling, bending, and overhead reaching required.
