Packaging Team Leader

Job Summary Heavy Seas Beer is seeking a skilled and experienced Team Leader to work in our Packaging Department. The Packaging Team Leader manages the Packaging Team to bottle, can and keg Heavy Seas Beer in an accurate, timely, and safe manner, while able to personally step in a complete any task they would ask of their team. This position is responsible for ensuring the completion of daily cleaning and maintenance of packing machinery and equipment. It also performs and oversees clerical duties to ensure that all inventory counts and materials losses are recorded correctly at the time of production and delivered to production administration. This full-time, salaried, exempt position reports directly to the Brewmaster/Operations Manager, with hours Monday-Friday starting at 5:30 am and with varying shift lengths. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Packaging Leadership Beer familiarity: An understanding of the properties beer which make its needs unique is crucial to intuitive troubleshooting Responsible for the proper setup, sanitation, changeover, operation, troubleshooting and shutdown of the pasteurizer, bottle filler, labeler and ancillary equipment (case erector, palletizer, etc.) Maintain necessary supplies for packaging lines (glue, cleaning products, safety equipment, etc.) Maintain an awareness of the daily and weekly packaging schedule Ensure the same is met to fulfill orders by directing the packaging team daily, coordinating and scheduling daily staffing needs for kegging, canning, and bottling Instruct, train, and cross-train staff on equipment and safety measures Packaging Operation As a guideline, job duties also include both the supervision and personal performance of: Safe operation of all equipment Setup of all lines from bright tanks to pasteurizer, filler, and kegger Proper sanitization and preparation of all lines for operation Perform change overs as needed Monitor the operation of equipment throughout production Make necessary adjustments to meet all quality control levels Perform preventative maintenance as scheduled Actively seek out problems and malfunctions and take corrective action Shutdown and properly clean machinery and prepare for the next production run Maintain product quality and equipment functionality across all three lines Thoroughly complete production and batch reporting Oversee the timekeeping of the department Achieve rotational participation of team members in daily QC testing Set up, operate, and maintain packaging equipment safely and efficiently Routinely operate bottling, canning, and kegging line effectively Perform changeovers on equipment lines to facilitate efficient production Clean and sanitize kegs according to specifications Properly run CIPs to start up and shut down lines Perform basic cellar operations, e.g. carbonating beer, as needed Consistently maintain a clean and organized packaging area Required Skills Problem Solving identify & resolve problems in a timely manner; develop alternative solutions Oral Communication speak clearly and persuasively; listen and obtain clarification when necessary Written Communication write clearly and concisely, effectively present numerical data and evaluations of team members Teamwork balance team and individual responsibilities, lead both by example and through instruction Planning/Organization prioritize and plan work activities; use time effectively Credentials and Experience Education: High School diploma required, associates degree or college preferred Experience: 2+ years of brewery experience in a hands-on setting Forklift experience required; current certification preferred Physical Conditions Ability to handle different kinds of equipment: Hoses Brewing vessels Pasteurizers Carbonating machines Packaging machinery Capacity to lift to 55 lbs., maneuver 175 lbs. and perform other physically demanding duties Able to stand and work at least 10 hours at a time Working Conditions The work environment can be cold, wet, hot and noisy and may require work in enclosed spaces. Personal protection equipment, such as safety glasses, hard hats, and boots are required.
