Senior Accountant - External ReportingOnsite | Chicago, ILAn early‑stage, rapidly growing and acquisitive technology startup operating at the intersection of AI, aerospace, and autonomous systems is seeking a Senior Accountant to own SEC reporting and external financial reporting in a lean, high‑growth environment. The company is actively expanding through acquisitions and is building the financial infrastructure needed to support scale.Position SummaryThe Senior Accountant is responsible for external financial reporting in compliance with U.S. GAAP and SEC regulations. This role leads preparation of SEC filings, supports quarterly and annual close processes, and contributes to technical accounting and audit readiness as the organization grows through both organic expansion and acquisitions.Key ResponsibilitiesSEC Reporting & External FilingsPrepare and review Form 10‑K, 10‑Q, and 8‑K filingsDraft financial statements, footnotes, disclosures, and MD&A support schedulesMaintain compliance with U.S. GAAP, SEC regulations, and SOX requirementsCoordinate with legal counsel, external auditors, and finance leadership during filing cyclesMonitor new accounting guidance and assess impact on reportingFinancial Reporting & Technical AccountingPrepare consolidated financial statements including balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement, and equity rollforwardsPerform technical accounting research and document conclusionsSupport implementation of new accounting standards, internal policies, and acquisition‑related accountingPrepare complex journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedulesEnsure completeness and accuracy of disclosuresMonth‑End and Quarter‑End CloseOwn key aspects of monthly and quarterly close in a small‑team environmentReview reconciliations and variance analysesIdentify opportunities to improve close efficiency and reporting processes as the company scalesAudit & ComplianceAct as primary point of contact for external auditorsPrepare audit schedules and PBC documentationSupport SOX compliance documentation and internal control processesAssist with internal audit requests and remediation itemsQualificationsBachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required4+ years of progressive accounting experience preferredPrior experience in a publicly traded company or Big 4 public accounting environment preferredDirect experience preparing SEC filings requiredStrong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirementsExperience supporting quarterly reviews and annual auditsAdvanced Excel skills including pivot tables and lookupsERP experience preferred (NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, or similar)Familiarity with SEC reporting tools such as Workiva or ActiveDisclosure is a plusCPA active or in progress strongly preferredComfortable working in a small, acquisitive startup environment with limited layers and high ownershipCompensation & BenefitsSalary Range: $90,000–$125,000Bonus: EligibleBenefits: Health insurance and additional benefitsWork Arrangement: 100% onsite, downtown ChicagoOur specialized recruiting professionals apply their expertise and utilize our proprietary AI to find you great job matches faster.
