Mechanical Engineer

Job Title: Mechanical Equipment Engineer Job Type: Full-timeLocation: Mobile, ALReports to: Mechanical Department Manager Job Summary:The Mechanical Equipment Engineer is responsible for the specification, design, technical evaluation, selection, and supplier data review of static and rotating equipment for engineering design projects in the petrochemical, chemical, pulp/paper, and power industries. Coordinates and directs activities related to mechanical equipment within a multi-discipline project engineering team by performing the following duties. Responsibilities:Experience with design, sizing, specification and selection of mechanical equipment including pumps, compressors, blowers, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, storage tanks, loading arms, packaged boilers.Collaborate with the engineering staff to produce design sketches and drawings in accordance with applicable standards. Accurately incorporate welding symbols and tolerances into design drawings.Design products or systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines, and      mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, or heat transfer systems.Direct and coordinate the equipment specification, review of equipment proposals, technical evaluation, and equipment drawings review to ensure conformance to the project engineering design specifications and customer specifications.Review and verify design drawings, equipment supplier drawings and other technical documentation to ensure correctness and accuracy in form, fit and function.Assist the construction contractor with answers to RFIs (Request for Information) during the installation phase of the project.Ensure all equipment adheres to industry standards such as ASME (for pressure vessels) and API, as well as safety and environmental regulations.Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related engineering discipline required.Minimum of five (5) years of experience in AutoCAD drafting, 3-D Modeling, engineering design software (FEA, Hydraulic modeling, etc.). Strong Microsoft Office skills.Hands-on experience with design, engineering and/or fabrication of welded components preferred. Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary. Strong technical writing skills. Writing must be clear and unambiguous. Strong troubleshooting, cross-functional collaboration, and technical reporting.Strong problem-solving skills and a creative approach for generating new ideas. An excellent grasp of engineering and design principles. Familiarity with ASME B31.3 (Process Piping), ASME Section VIII (Pressure Vessels), API 650 Storage Tanks, and other API/ASME standards typical for the Chemical and Pulp and Paper Industries. PE License desired or on path for PE Licensure.Physical Requirements:Ability to operate a computer and view video display terminal images < 18” away from face for extended periods of time - up to four (4) hours at a time.Ability to sit for extended periods of time - up to four (4) hours at a time. Ability to lift, tug, pull up to fifteen (15) pounds.Ability to perform site visits and climb ladders and stairs in all weather conditions for extended periods of time - up to four (4) hours at a time - in industrial facilities.
