Overview In this Lead Software Engineer role, you guide design and delivery of scalable, cloud-native Java applications within a large enterprise undergoing digital transformation. You’ll shape architecture, enforce engineering best practices, and partner with IT and business stakeholders to align technology with priorities. You’ll lead hands-on development while mentoring engineers and coordinating cross-functional work across architecture, QA, product, and operations. The position emphasizes REST/microservices, AWS, and enterprise integrations to support mission-critical systems. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity to influence technical direction and delivery at scale. ResponsibilitiesLead technical design, architecture, and code quality across development initiativesProduce scalable, highly available solution designs for mission-critical applicationsPartner with architecture and engineering leadership to align technology strategy with business prioritiesEstablish development standards, best practices, and reusable technical patternsDesign, develop, and support modern applications using Java, microservices, and API-driven architecturesBuild and integrate RESTful web services and enterprise applicationsSupport applications running in cloud environments, including AWS-based architecturesCollaborate with project managers on estimates, planning, and delivery timelinesCoordinate with operations for deployment and production supportServe as a technical point of contact for IT and business stakeholdersLead and mentor software engineers while supporting delivery executionStaff projects and coordinate work across internal teams, contractors, and third-party resourcesPromote strong engineering practices, collaboration, and continuous improvement Key requirements8+ years of software development experience with Java, including increasing technical responsibilityExperience leading development teams of 3+ engineersStrong experience designing scalable, highly available enterprise systemsExpertise building REST APIs, microservices, and multi-tier applicationsStrong knowledge of SQL and data modelingExperience designing and integrating enterprise applicationsAbility to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiencesExperience working in Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid development environmentsBachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experienceExperience building applications in AWS or cloud-native environmentsFamiliarity with enterprise customer-facing or transactional platformsExperience in industries such as retail, ecommerce, financial services, automotive, or similar high-volume environmentsleadership and mentoringcross-functional collaborationeffective communication to diverse audiencesJavamicroservicesREST APIs
