Substation Journeyman Tech

Elliot is a full-service electrical contractor specializing in overhead and underground distribution, transmission, substations, lighting, traffic signaling, utility locating and industrial/commercial services. Job Description We are seeking experienced Substation Journeyman Tech to join our construction team. This position involves hands-on work with high-voltage systems, supporting construction, upgrades, and maintenance projects while ensuring safety, quality, and reliability of critical power infrastructure. As part of the day-to-day responsibilities, you will be completing the following:Install, maintain, and repair substation equipment and systemsAssist with construction of new substations and upgradesInterpret construction drawings, specifications, and project plans.Work on and around:Structural steel (equipment supports, bus structures)Foundations and grounding systemsConduit, cable trench, and duct bank systemsBus work and rigid/flexible bus installationEquipment setting (transformers, breakers, switches, control cabinets)Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and energized work protocolsConduct pre-job briefings and adhere to all safety standardsIdentify and report hazards, defects, or installation issuesWork closely with foremen, engineers, and other crew members QualificationsMinimum 3-7+ years of substation construction experience.Journeyman-level experience in electrical construction or utilitiesStrong knowledge of:Substation equipment and systemsElectrical installation practices and safety proceduresAbility to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings.Working knowledge of construction safety standards.Ability to operate construction equipment as needed.Valid driver's licenseOwn your own hand toolsMust be able to learn from On-the-Job training and work well with others Must be able to pass criminal background check and drug screening Benefits/Culture Today, we are listed among Engineering News-Records Top 150 Specialty Contracting firms.
