Mechanical EngineerCellsense manufactures sustainable products for the fashion, jewelry, and beauty industries utilizing our proprietary material made from Algae and Cellulose. Cellsense aims to replace plastics and resins, and in doing so eliminate major sources of microplastics and heavy metal pollution. With our material we can achieve a wide range of colors, clarities, forms, and even unique properties such as bio-fluorescence. Our novel manufacturing systems enable us to produce complex beaded textiles at scale, replacing overseas manual labor with highly automated domestic production. Currently, we are focused on scaling up our process while engaging in paid pilots with industry partners. You will join us at an exciting stage of our growth.The RoleWe're looking for a hands-on engineer to own production at Cellsense as we scale. You'll be responsible for taking our manufacturing systems from prototype to pilot plant, developing and implementing the necessary tools and processes to meet growing demand from our brand partners. As a key member of our small team, you'll collaborate closely with our founder and have a meaningful impact on the development and deployment of Cellsense's next-generation production capabilities.ResponsibilitiesDesign and iterate on hardware necessary for Cellsense to scale productionBuild and optimize automated material deposition systemsCustomize molds for diverse customer use casesSource components and work with suppliers to manage parts and lead timesWork across disciplines to help develop exciting new productsOwn and develop engineering at CellsenseWhat We're Looking ForBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field3+ years of engineering experience, including taking projects from concept to completionHands-on experience designing, building, and troubleshooting physical systemsProficiency in 3D CAD software of choiceFamiliarity with prototyping methods such as machining, 3D printing, and laser cuttingExperience with manufacturing processes or automation is a strong plusStrong organizational skills and attention to detailSelf-motivated problem-solver who thrives in a startup environmentWhat We OfferCompensation range: $80,000 - $110,000 per year + equityHealth insuranceDirect ownership of production systems and processesOpportunity to work on meaningful environmental impact as part of a tightly knit teamJob Type: Full-time, in-personLocation: Brooklyn, New York or Buffalo, New YorkTravel: 10-15% (domestic)ApplyIf you're a builder who loves turning prototypes into production-ready systems, we'd love to hear from you!
