Position Purpose: - Under the general supervision of the School Principal and Special Education Supervisor, to maximize the learning experience of students with special needs, in academics, interpersonal skills and activities of daily living by implementing district-approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities, outcomes; addressing students' specific needs; providing a safe and optimal learning environment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Demonstrated ability to develop differentiated lesson plans and use instructional tools to meet the needs of students with learning challengesDemonstrated ability to collaborate with general education teachers and other service providers to ensure the academic and social growth of studentsDemonstrated ability to integrate curriculum across academic disciplinesDedication to teaching in ways that are interactive, hands-on, project-based, and promote self-discovery and critical thinkingCommitment to achieving high academic achievement for all studentsPrevious experience using data to inform instruction on an on-going basisA clear understanding of curriculum, instruction, and child developmentCommitment to meet the needs of every child in a diverse populationAbility to establish an effective and efficient classroom cultureEvaluate student progress based on work output and observation, determine goals, objectives, and directions.Prepare appropriate paperwork, including report cards, educational records, IEP forms, and classroom observation records.Create a classroom environment that emphasizes and supports literacy and math across all content areasCapacity to nurture students and work collaboratively with familiesStrong interpersonal skills and proven ability to work as a member of a teamPossess a professional growth mindset that contributes to a community of educators SUPPORTS: In addition to the New Teacher Induction Program, new teachers in the Owen J. Roberts School District receive a mentor teacher to support their acclimation to the district and provide ongoing support throughout the school year. Also, special education teachers are supported by IEP Facilitators. The IEP Facilitators work under the special education supervisors to assist with IEP development and review, consult on behavior and instruction as well as serve as LEA for IEP meetings. QUALIFICATIONS: To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualification requirements listed below represent minimum levels of educational achievement, training, skill and/or ability necessary.Bachelor's Degree.Pennsylvania Special Education Teaching Certification.Effective interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents.Ability to express self clearly and concisely in oral and written communications; and to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups.Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; to plan and implement lessons based on curriculum objectives and the needs and abilities of students.Well organized with good time management skills.Computer literate and competent with word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.Submission of PA School Personnel Health form.Current Act 34, Act 168, Act 151 and Act 114 clearances. * This position description does not express or imply that these are the only duties to be performed by the incumbent in this position. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:190 days, 7 hours 30 minutes per day.Salary and benefits according to the negotiated agreement between the Board of School Directors and the Roberts Education Association.Bachelor's Degree starting $60,250; Master's Degree starting $65,900; Final salary determined by education and experience.According to the School District Policy Manual (available online at www.ojrsd.com).
